Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
The bright, colorful illustrations and simple verse of this book will appeal to even the smallest readers. The book itself is shaped like a 3-dimensional fire truck, with yellow plastic wheels on the bottom and charming fire-ducks riding on top. The short, rhyming story takes toddlers through the process of putting out a fire. First the fire ducks make sure everyone is out of the building, then they hook up the hoses, put out the fire and finally put away the gear. Chief Spot finds a little lost kitten, which the fire department adopts as its new fire-cat. The fastener that keeps the book in the shape of a fire engine is easy for small hands to open and close. The thick cardboard and sturdy, well-attached wheels make this book both fun to play with and fun to read. 2001, Workman Publishing, $9.95. Ages 4 to 8. Reviewer: Bethany Miller Cole AGES: 4 5 6 7 8
