In The Fire Inside, Steve Delsohn got firefighters to candidly speak about their most dangerous job. They tell of the trauma of dealing with the victims of fire, the misery in the street, but the camaraderie they find with other firefighters. Fires and firefighters have fascinated people since the profession came around. In this book, The author has taken the time to get behind the scenes, and talk to the men and women who do the backbreaking, dirty work that is firefighting. In their own words they tell about the horrors and the joys that go along with this ever changing profession. I disliked the lack of organization in the book, but this was probably the intention. The book would probably be best read by adults, because of the sometimes vulgar and graphic language that is used in the book. This book is a must for every fire buff or anyone curious about this strange, but always rewarding job. I would rate this book a 4 out of 5.

    Chartreuse

Chartreuse sat on a rug in the middle of the room, Silver perched on her shoulder watching intently as Chartreuse sharpened her saxe knife. The room is neat and just the perfect size. One wall is completely made of glass, in a nitch in the opposite wall, there is a bed. There is a bar with a marble counter top off to one side, and a resteraunt style booth backed up against it. Behind the counter is the kitchen area, on the table there are a couple violets in a vase. The walls are painted a very light green, and altogether, the room is warm and open, and would be inviting if it wern't for the weapons that hung on pegs by the door.

"The Fire inside" is a great read to get the general idea of what a firefighter does, what they have to do to become a firefighter,
and the camaraderie between firefighters. You here about regular as well as obscure fire and medical runs as well as accounts from
famous fires such as the South Canyon Fire and the San Francisco Earthquake. This is all first hand testimony from firefighter who were
there so it is very authentic. The major theme in this book is teamwork and brotherhood. Firefighters depend on each other and if
a mistake is made, people could die. This book would be great for anyone interested in firefighting or who is curious as to what firefighters actually do. What I specifically liked about this book was the variety. Each story or quote averaged about a page and you could really get to see everything that happens rather than just one long story about a specific station or company. What I disliked about the book was that some of the accounts could be confusing because they were not specific enough about the setting and the situation and you could get lost. However most of the book was awesome. Someone should read this because it will give them a greater appreciation for firefighters and emergency personel in general. You realize you have to be tough and not squimish to have this job. Firefighters have to see people in the worst moments of their lives and a lot of people don't realize that. This book would be an awful movie because it is a collection of quotes and memoirs that are too vastly different and short to make a movie out of. I would rate this book a 4 out of 5 and strongly recommend reading it.
