The "series" (actually a set) reportedly consists of four books on Aristotle's elements (water, air, earth, and fire). The fire volume at lease is ill-conceived, and not well executed. The text aims at no clear audience, is uneven in technicality, and sweeps too broad a scope--astronomy, geology, fuel and power, and uses and abuses. The illustrations are generally uninspired, and the color photos die of flat printing. The absence of a bibliography is shocking in such a reference. Annotation c.
