Meet the Author

Hi, I spent most of my life working as a carpenter and yes, my name IS Ken Plank. After 55 years of cutting up wood and banging in nails I decided to hang up the saw and retire. I started writing to please my Grand daughters who always asked me to 'Tell them a story' Short stories at first then along came 'Fire Opal' with my grand daughter as the main character. Two more books are in the pipeline and I am thoroughly enjoying the invention and pleasure it brings. You're never too old to do something new!

Pebblestep padded out, watching Rockpelt's tail swishing bck and forth. |Great,| She thought glumly, |I am stuck with tough cats. First Mountainclaw. He's mean to me. But at least his old mentor is going along. But Rockpelt is a crazy cat who is a smart thinker, makes inventions and doesn't or isn't right!| Hethought pinning her ears back.
A roaring sound filled her ears. "What's that?" She mewed. "The Thunderpath." Mewed Rockpelt calmly. "Didn't you get a tour of the territory when you were an apprintence?" Sneered Mountainclaw. "N-No. I think-I think I already knew. Or seen the territory." As she padded foward her eyes widened in terror and her heart beat
wildly. Her pelt prickled with fear. She grew more scared with every step.
Her old nightmare came back. Running across a hard path, Monsters roaring past...tumbling... "Halt!" Came Rockpelt's order as he brought her to the present. He sat and marvled at the Monsters. Pebblestep couldn't belive that he liked those scary things.
He froze, then dashed across. Mountainclaw stepped up, waited, then dashed across. "C'mon!" He called from the other side. Pebblestep gingerly put a paw on the Thunderpath. It was rough, hot, and sticky. "Run!" Hissed Mountainclaw. She despretly ran across, then looked up to see a Monster headed straight for her!
She screeched and ran across the Thunderpath. The Monster roared where she had been only ten seconds ago. "Are you ok?" Asked Rockpelt. "Yeah..." She said dazed. "I don't like it either." Rockpelt mewed. "I'm glad it's over." Pebblestep nodded. "Me too." She stood up and suddently realized where they were. They were in Riverclan territory.
