Children's Literature - Sarah Raymond
Fire Truck and Fox thought they were going to have a peaceful day at the firehouse but then the fire alarm starts ringing. Immediately Fox, Fire Truck, and the other members of the fire department are off to fight a fire at a nearby apartment building. As Fox and Fire Truck are working to put out the fire, they realize a woman is trapped on the top floor. Fire Truck must use his ladder and work with Fox to bring the woman to safety. Children will love the sound effects and action as Fox and Fire Truck fight the fire. As in the other books of the "Busy Wheels" series, author Mandy Archer includes wonderful sound effects while illustrator Martha Lightfoot provides engaging illustrations to accompany the text. Archer also delves into some specific vocabulary terms associated with fire trucks and firefighting. The section at the end of the story provides a closer look at the various parts of fire trucks as well as other rescue vehicles. Overall, this is a great book that serves as a tool for building a child's vocabulary and awareness of firefighting efforts. Reviewer: Sarah Raymond
