In a world between Earth and Ki:mera, called Co:pern:ica, lives a twelve-year-old boy named David. He and his friend Rosanna spend their days in the librarium, a museum for books, with the curator, Mr. Henry, and the mysterious firebirds that roam the upper levels.

When the two friends accidentally injure one of the firebirds, David and Rosanna find themselves on a remarkable and dangerous adventure. The evil Ix have found a way to Co:pern:ica from their home planet and have taken over a firebird, turning it to the side of darkness. The birds have a secret, though: They know about the existence of dragons.

With the help of David and Rosanna, the firebirds must reach across the universe to call on the dragons for protection. But will the dragons arrive before the Ix destroy everything?

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

Dark Fire, the previous Last Dragon Chronicles, ended with a cliffhanger, and this penultimate novel in the series lives up to every expectation. An accidental injury thrusts David and Rosanna into a parallel where they must improvise and readers can delight in the richness of author Chris D'Lacey's imagination. (P.S. Avid young readers will bathe in the resonance of Fire World's Librarium, a vast, living ancient building filled with books.)

From the Publisher

Praise for the Last Dragon Chronicles:
"d'Lacey's characters are realistic and engaging. . . . A page-turner." --THE HORN BOOK

"Chris d'Lacey's writing is sometimes exciting and sometimes silly. But that seems in keeping with the worlds he created -- one that seems almost real and one that is beyond imagination." --THE WASHINGTON POST

". . . [T]he story, with its involving and thought-provoking plot full of clever little dragons, mystical polar bears, and spiritual and ecological aspects, will appeal to many fantasy lovers." --SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL

Children's Literature - Julia Beiker
At birth, our hero is given an average name, David. He thinks he lives a normal life with his mom and dad. Yet, he dreams weird and terrifying nightmares that lead the family to an adventure where they discover their true identities and how they must play a part in saving the world. Well maybe...This story gives young readers an imaginative way to perceive how the universe began utilizing several concepts of creation from mythological to biblical to evolution. Upon learning of David's unique characteristics, Counselor Stromberg suggests sending him to the librarium to seek relaxation, but reality dictates that this strange building and overseer, Mr. Henry, educate David not only on the love of books, but it also watches him change from an adolescent into a young man literally overnight. David's companion, Rosa, helps him to seek the truth and finds herself alone when the decisions become harder and harder to make. This action-packed fantasy delves into the young readers imagination and curiosity into where do we come from and what lies behind and ahead of us. Some adults may find it offensive to their religious beliefs. I feel this strong and complicated plot driven novel and large range of scenarios keeps us from getting to know the cast and their motivation without rereading parts over and over again. I do appreciation the original story line, and the book is well written. This book is part of the "Last Dragon Chronicles" series. Reviewer: Julia Beiker

    It was great!

I loved the book. It was one of the best so far. I read the others and loved them and thought i'd like this one and i did. It had a surprising twist in the story. My recommendation is if you like adventure, mystery, and surprises get this book.

Some say... WHAT??? I say Oh Yeahhhhh

this huge step in the opposite direction is perfect to set up for the final book that I have just finished reading. I waited to review this one until after the Fire Ascending because I wanted to see how they would "commingle" and I have to say it worked great. Fire World is the best in the series because it is DIFFERENT and BOLD and CONFUSING... but all those things only contribute to the book's greatness but i will say the ending of the series might disappoint like it did for me.

WELCOME TO THE LAST DRAGON RP! (Read)

You can be human, fairy, elf, dwarf, or mermaid/merman. Those are the light creatures. The dark creatures are: goblin, witch/warlock, werecat, vampire, werewolf, zombie, or wererat. You cannot be a female dragon, the last female dragon is played by me. Map: bios res 2. Forest res 3. Dragon clifs res 4. Rules: this rp has a goal. For light creatures: to tame the last dragons. For dark creatures: to enslave the last dragons and make them repopulate an army. For male dragons: to find the last female and hopefully get a chance to mate (mating seens not required). All people must play at least one dark or light creature. There can only be five male dragons at a time, and all of them must play at least one humanoid. (This is what Dragons came up with as an rp, Cassi and everybody else at 'plato love' who stumbled onto this...)
