Fireflies and Magnolias
“After all these years, I have finally decided to share this story. It was born in my heart, some of it torn viciously and painfully from me by people who had no idea of the pain and anguish they caused. Only you will know the whole truth about it all. It would be devastating and entirely too painful if the truth were shared with the others!
I never thought of myself as special, but I was blessed to discover love when I was just a lad, and I carried that hunger in my heart until my life was filled with years. We were all filled with fondness and frivolity, and we thought it would go on without end—until that fateful night at the beach changed our lives forever!
It was the fifties and sixties, the wonder years for most of us in our Lower Ninth Ward gang in Orleans Parish, and we loved each other in a strange and perhaps uncommon way. Some might even say all of it helped us play a small role in changing history.”

At once an impassioned, aching love story and a riveting mystery, Fireflies and Magnolias is a nostalgic narrative that recalls the child in all of us, the story of a gang of kids who loved to laugh and dream—and chase fireflies on warm, humid evenings.
