Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Red, for those who may not be familiar with "Firehouse Tales," is a spiffy red fire engine. He works with a team that includes two other engines—Crabby and Petrol. In addition, certain types of fires call for additional equipment, like Spinner the helicopter and Bubba the bulldozer. They can fly and move some really heavy dirt. Red thinks it would be great if he could have all the capabilities of his pals. During a dream sequence, he becomes Super Truck and, like Superman, he can fly and lift heavy objects. He becomes a hero and the town holds a parade for him, but then the demands grow for his assistance and his pals feel that they are useless. When the dream ends, they all go to put out a fire and Red realizes how great it is to be part of a team. Cartoon-style illustrations illustrate the warm message in this story.
