Great book for getting up to speed with Fireworks

I haven't used Fireworks since version 2, so I didn't have very high expectations for Fireworks 4. This book opened my eyes. I don't usually pick up books from the f/x and Design series, but when I initially flipped through this one it seemed very direct and useful. My iniital impression proved true. I appreciated Joyce Evans' clear concise approach. Working through this book was one of the smoothest reintroduction to a program experiences I can ever recall. Very nicely done. I will be looking for more titles by this author in the future. Scott Hamlin author: Flash 5 Magic director, Eyeland Studio www.eyeland.com

    Best I've found for Fireworks

This is the best book I've found for stretching Fireworks to limits I didn't realize it could reach.
This book helped me do all kinds of interfaces, not just pieces parts but from beginning to end. It helped me be creative and stretch my imagination and see possibilties I didn't know existed.
The writing is concise and no nonsense, just to the point and step-by-step. There are tons of images included, everything for every project and more. Free Hemera photo objects is included.
I learned how to mask, do collages, draw navigation, do image correction and use the Bezier tool (a wonderful movie tutorial really helped) there are 18 bonus movie tutorials on the CD for the more difficult aspects of the program.
a very detailed tutorial on gel buttons with a movie to help. There was even tips on how to customize the JavaScript for the pop-up menus and a great nav bar made into a symbol which can be added with a click of the mouse. Even with text added the graphics in the nav bar remain editable--pretty neat
It's well worth the money spent, over 50 tutorials in the book covering all the important features, slicing, optimizing and so on.
I checked out the Playing With Fire book and think it's highly over rated (in the Fireworks forum) (only 217 pages with large and pixelated images). A lot of the projects have been available for free on the Playing with Fire web site previous to the book being made (which is fine if you didn't go there before, if you have you may be disappointed), now most is deleted.
These books are very very different from each other. PWF is fine for beginners just advancing to intermediate or those only looking for quick tips, but if you want the whole tamale get the f/x and Design one. Dollar for dollar, my money goes on Fireworks 4 f/x & Design!!!
