School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 5 Up The revisions to the 1984 edition of this book are few, and are mostly confined to the appended material. The new text, even the book jacket information, is a verbatim copy of the earlier edition, with the exception of the addition of the Santore family to the ``Famous Fireworks Families'' chapteran addition that is accommodated by shortening the information on another family so that the pagination remains the same. In the appended material are three new ``Fascinating Fireworks Facts,'' such as Lady Liberty's birthday on July 4, 1986, and some changes in state laws of legal and illegal fireworks. There is a new section in the appendix on ``Where Fireworks Are,'' a guide to the best annual shows from coast to coast. The new edition remains a comprehensive, clear look at a fascinating subject. While it is certainly a solid selection, libraries with the first edition will need to decide whether the revisions merit purchase of the new edition.
