Introduction

Introduction

Dear Sweet Reader!

By the time I was int he fourth grade at St. Hugois it was clear to me that I would someday become an artist. I felt this to be true because when I was coloring, cutting, and pasting I felt Whole. No three-layer cake, Saturday morning cartoons, or sneaky venial sin could give me that glorious feeling. I loved it so much I worked to know it again and again.

Along thw way to grown-up land there have been otherexperiences, mighty fine indeed that have added to my whole picture. Falling in love, loving best friends, discovering silken threads of understanding that gift wrap families, and engaging, through nature, in daily chit-chats with the master artist of all Beauty.

My better-than-best Lotto ticket in the winning of completeness came my way when I became what many of us are...a mother. This job ... calling ...role ...that defines you and me, is a great mystery to be solved in little sturdy steps.

Like playing in a championship, there are seasons of bliss and others that salute the loyal will of the Chicago Cubs.

This book is a personal map and gift to your mothering Heart. It is a trophy to sit atop your nightstand for all that you do and are ... trips to the E.R., school playground, grodery store ... the hours of dawn, greeted alone, as you worry a new day awake. Your sometimes "too tired to think" life has more merit and unclaimed distinction than a million steps on the moon or pirated jewels that (no matterhow lovely) fail to buy your dreams come true. This job, darlin is a high HIGH HONOR. Sadly the Face of the world has yet to bestow upon motherhood its proper grace and gratitude. In time ... your own children will see this Calling for what it is: The Noble Art of loving someone into full bloom. I reall think that a slice of heaven on earth is found in the children who have been mothered by champions, like you. Your Oscars are your children, the bouquets you gather nd leave behind.

Love,
Nancy Drew

P.S.There is no microwavable recipe for good mothering ... It is an hourly mix that melts into years of stepping up to the bat ... Don't be afraid ... Say "give me the ball, litlle darlin .... Ican do this ... give me the ball." Whether a single mom, or married to a swell guy, a career-gal mom, stay-at-home-mom, Foster mom, grand-mere, or cooler-than-cool aunt ... No matter how chop up the parts of your life to create your own remarkable recipe, Always Remember: for one part discipline, add Ten parts Love: for one part Wisdom, add ten parts Love ... and so it goes, dolly. Stir and mix ... sit and watch ... softly pray and, Lo and behold, your very own Golden Mothering Stew ... so complete and true. * Motherhood is ... A risk worth takings with rewards that pale all earthly jewels!!! create with Joy Love with passion,
xox
and the stars will thank you!
