Blood Secrets, Book 1

There’s a killer lurking in Dr. Skylar Novak’s family tree: the gene for breast cancer. That’s why her brilliant brother invented the Bella vaccine. But even if the miracle drug protects her from the cancer that took her mother’s life, it can’t save Sky from the flesh and bone evil stalking her in secret.

Survival leads to seduction, and Danny risks everything—his career, even his life, to keep Sky safe. But will the buried sins they uncover cost him her heart?

Danny’s strong arms may hold her close, but only Sky can stop the terror that’s coming next…

    Loved It!

First Do No Evil is a first book for Carey Baldwin but reading it proves she has what it takes to make writing a long lasting career. I can't think of one other book I've read that had me falling in love with the hero in the first few pages. And it only got better ...

There are some medical terms I was unfamiliar with and usually it bothers me when I have to "stumble" over parts of a book. But, the author uses them in such a way that understanding their meaning is easy and clear. This may be a first effort but I am seriously hoping it isn't her last.

I was fortunate enough to receive an advance reader copy of FIRS

I was fortunate enough to receive an advance reader copy of FIRST DO NO EVIL, author Carey Baldwin's debut medical thriller. From the first page to the last I was totally hooked. The pacing is perfect. From the very first scene the reader is given a premonition that something terrible is about to happen. And when that terrible thing does happen, the scene is so shocking, so emotional, so riveting that it takes your breath away. The plot is enjoyable, but it's not what makes this book such an incredible reading experience. What makes it so enjoyable is the unique voice of the author, and characters that stick with you long after you finish the story. Miss Baldwin uses her background as a physician to sprinkle in medical terminology and frame her scenes to make them different from other stories. The villain (or villains - no spoilers here!) is so well-drawn, so fleshed out. But perhaps the best part of this novel is the hero. Detective Daniel Benson is sexy, of course, and alpha--totally capable of handling any situation life can throw at him--until he's faced with his rebellious teenaged daughter. Seeing this widower struggle as a single-parent brought tears to my eyes. But what surprised me most was how Miss Baldwin is able to blend a tough, strong alpha hero with the emotional and thinking side of a beta, without him coming across as a wimp. Danny is tough when he needs to be, but he has an enormous respect for human life and isn't trigger happy like many fictional alpha cop heroes. The last thing he wants is to have to shoot someone, and he has the emotional reaction to using force that you would expect from a real-life cop. In other words, he's REAL. This debut novel is written with the skill of a veteran author, but with the unique voice of fresh new talent. If you enjoy romance and suspense, you can't go wrong with FIRST DO NO EVIL. I highly recommend it.

    more from this reviewer

First Do No Evil is the first book in Carey Baldwin¿s Blood Secr

First Do No Evil is the first book in Carey Baldwin’s Blood Secrets
series. It’s an action packed, romantic, medical thriller that took me
on a roller coaster ride of emotions. At times I was riveted to the
story and couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to find out what would
happen next, while at other times I was reading with one eye squeezed
tightly shut, afraid of what might happen next. About her recipe for a
great book, Ms. Baldwin says: “A dollop of romance + a dash of medicine
+ a cup of crazy. Fold into a story. Bake until it rises, and voila,
    you've cooked up a delicious thriller!”Well, I'm here to tell you that’s
exactly what she served up with this story. While there were a few
things that didn’t work well for me, there were plenty of things that
did. Great characters, exciting storyline, passion and romance… this
book has it all, and I’m looking forward to reading more by this very
talented author. 3.5/5 stars My thanks to Ms. Baldwin for providing me
with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
