Overview

I am Gwen Frost, and I have a Gypsy gift. It's called psychometry – that's a fancy way of saying that I see images in my head and get flashes of other people's memories off almost everything I touch, even guys.

My gift makes me kind of nosy. Okay, okay, maybe a lot nosy—to the point of obsession sometimes. I want to know everything about everyone around me. But even I don't want to know the secrets my friend Paige is hiding or the terrible loss that will send me to a new school – Mythos Academy, where the teachers aren't preparing us for the SATs, but to battle Reapers of Chaos. Now I have no friends and no idea how my gift fits in with all these warrior whiz kids. The only thing I do know is that my life is never, ever going to be the same. . .

It's a good precursor to the actual book which will be released soon. Wish I would have realized that before I had bought it. I wouldn't have wasted the money and would have just waited til the actual book was released.

First of all I am very big on checking out a book by its reviews, ratings, the price, and how much it interest me, so when I got this book's smaple it looked good and I had thought I had read the reviews but I guess I missed them all together. When I got this book instead of thinking about it I just bought it, and in the end finding out it was such a stupid idea! The book is ONLY 27 pages!!!! Yes I said 27! I was so mad that it was just like the summary but with fillers. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO: **So if you really want to read this book look up the author and you will find the real first one, the only difference is that its more money but if your interested then dont waste your money on this one and just buy the other which I have added as my recommed book**

I purchased this because it sounded interesting, but I was unaware it is only 27 pages! I'm not even going to waste my time reading it now. Very disappointed and misled.

I thought this was a good prequel. I only gave it two stars though because while it was interesting it wasn't very action packed and it was only 27 pages long. At parts I felt like I had to drag myself through it. I think I will read the first book in the series because it sounds as if the first book is where all the action is starting but I just wish that the action had been present here to get me more fired up about reading the first one. Isn't that what a prequel is supposed to do?

This was just a teaser to get you hooked into the series. Gwen is a nice girl that you can sympathize with. I will have to get the next book.

This is a bit of a waste if you read the first actual book in the series. It was okay. The series, however, is excellent. I would recommend it 100%. It is cheap enough if you are interested, but you learn everything in the first book that this prequel tells you.

Gwendolyn Frost is your normal average awkward teenager. Resigned to the fringes of the popular factions, being more a sweatshirt and comics than sling backs and coach kind of girl. Maybe her tastes in outside appearance is a nod to her difference. Gwen has a Gypsy gift of psychometry, she is able to touch something enabling her to see glimpses and feel emotions of the people who have come into contact with it. First Frost is set about six months prior Touch of Frost and, details the events leading up to Gwen's entrance to Mythos Academy. I am a fan of Estep and have been patiently waiting for this series to drop and snatched this up as soon as I came across it. Immediately after finishing First Frost I went on the authors site to see if any chapters of Touch of Frost were posted. The first two chapters are available and were a factor in my assessment of this teaser. So while I like what I've read so far, in general the concept is really interesting, with a lot of potential. I like the idea of a school for warrior whiz kids. But I was disappointed. First Frost was more of a prologue than a novella. The story wasn't enough for me to think of this as anything more than an introduction. It was insightful and left me wanting more. It didn't cost much, so I don't feel cheated. My real problem is with the inconsistencies between this and the full book. Of course in Touch of Frost the explanations of Gwen's gift and past are included, but she unknowingly caught the vision that starts everything. Though in First Frost she planned it. There were other little things that didn't match. I just find that the lack of consistency turns First Frost into a half-hearted effort. I am still looking forward to this series. You don't need to read this, It's not vital, but if you like little shorts and want a summary of Gwen's life before Mythos you'll love it. And the price isn't bad for what it is. If your not sure the first two chapters are available on the author's web site.

Rating 3.5/5 stars Initially I won the latest book (#5 Killer Frost) of this series but could not claim it as I didn't realise it was a US only giveaway. It's ok I made peace with this fact but this series did catch my attention.  I am never really sure if reading the prequel before the first book is a good or a bad thing, as sometimes it can intrigue you and other times it can just put you off.  First frost gives you the reason Gwen is sent to Mythos Academy. It is quite an emotional and intense quick read. This is my first introduction to Ms Estep's work. It was a short and sweet introduction to what looks to be an awesome series. Jennifer's writing is easy to get into and flows nicely. I am quite excited to continue with this series.  Final Thoughts: I think I am going to love this series! PS I was fascinated when I had a look at some of the reviews for First Frost on Goodreads. Yes this quick read has similarities to Harry Potter - that's ok with me!

This is NOT A BOOK. It's basically Chapter 1 of Touch of Frost, which is the actual book. It's 27 pages, and had I known it was not book 1, I would not have purchased it. It's pretty much a ripoff.
