Overview

An Improbable Dream

At forty, Tom Flynn has reached all the lofty goals of money and success he'd dreamed of as a boy struggling to survive. The only thing left on his list:  Get married! But he hasn't a clue where to find the perfect wife--or even if he can change his love-'em-and-leave-'em ways. Until he shows up at his birthday party in the small town of Bethlehem and sits across the table from beautiful, desirable Holly McBride.

An Impossible Conquest

Wish for me, Holly thinks silently just as Tom blows out the candles on his cake. But Bethlehem's most eligible single woman wants only a sizzling fling, not a wedding ring. She's seen up close what a disaster marriage can be, and that's one mistake she plans to avoid. But Holly hasn't counted on Tom's single-minded campaign to win her heart--or some mysterious intervention in a special town where miracles are an everyday occurrence....

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Revered for her heartwarming romances populated with quirky characters, Pappano (Father to Be) returns to the magical town of Bethlehem, N.Y., where the human spirit shines and angels and cupids play matchmaker to the lost and lonely. Forty-year-old multimillionaire Tom Flynn has met all his goals in life except one: he has yet to find the perfect wife. Tom defines "perfect" as a woman whose beauty, autonomy, sophistication and intelligence would be the envy of his friends. Innkeeper Holly McBride meets all his requirements, but incidents from her childhood have turned her off love and marriage. Tom, who is also trying to get past traumas from his youth, seems motivated by Holly's constant rejection of him, which may cause some readers to doubt the depth of his character. However, the remaining cast, which includes an awkward teenage runaway who plays a pivotal role in Holly's past, picks up the slack and leads the way to a typically Pappano, happily-ever-after ending. (Sept.) FYI: Season of Miracles, the first book in the Bethlehem series, was a 1998 Hallmark Hall of Fame TV movie. Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.|

    A fun read.

Tom Flynn, as a boy, had been poor and lived in a bad part of town. He made a list of everything he planned to succeed at. Every year, on his birthday, he pulled out the list to check on his progress.

At forty, Tom Flynn, had accomplished it all but two. As he crossed out 'earn your first fifty million', the only thing he recalled having left was 'get married'. But there was an addition! In his own handwriting was 'fall in love'. Ready to do the first, but unsure of the second, he began his search for the perfect woman to become his wife. He knew all the qualities he wanted.

When Tom found her, he knew he would have a fight on his hands. He chose Holly McBride. She owned the inn he often stayed at in Bethlehem, N.Y. But Holly wanted NOTHING to do with the state of matrimony! She had grown up seeing what marriage was like between her parents. Her father was now deceased. Her mother was still an alcoholic who hated her guts! Besides, Holly considered herself the 'Queen of One Night Stands' and was not about to wed Tom Flynn!

However, as determined as Holly was NOT to marry Tom, he was just as determined she WOULD!

*** Excellent story! This is the same author who wrote 'Season for Miracles' and it was made into a Hallmark Hall of Fame TV movie! That, alone, proved her to be a superb writer. But this tale reinforces that knowledge! In this fictional N.Y. town, wishes can (and do) come true. Fabulous reading between this book cover! A KEEPER! ***

    Inspiring romance

Tom Flynn changed his life at sixteen following the death of his mother. Tom never knew his father and realized if he was to make it in life he had to depend on himself. Over the next twenty-four years, Tom modified his list, but never lost sight as to why he developed them in the first place. Now he has achieved all his goals including earning fifty million dollars except one, getting married. However, when he looked at his sacred list, he noticed an additional goal of falling in love that he cannot remember adding on as an objective. In Tom¿s mind that is impossible, but he is honor bound to achieve anything on his sacred list.

In Bethlehem, New York, Holly McBride owns and manages the McBride Inn. She has no time for marriage or love especially after witnessing first hand the destruction of her parents¿ relationship. However, Holly and Tom begin to reconsider the meaning of love as the magic of Bethlehem nudges them towards one another.

FIRST KISS is the latest Marilyn Pappano Bethlehem contemporary romance and like its predecessors, this is a warm, inspiring tale. The lead characters are a charming duo struggling with childhood ghosts that still haunt them. With the help of the townsfolk, a pinch of magic, and love, they still struggle to forge a future together. Ms. Pappano always provides an encouraging romantic story.

At last, Holly and Tom's story!

Finally, fans of Ms. Pappano's Bethlehem books can read about the couple everyone has been waiting for---Holly McBride and Tom Flynn. The two main characters in FIRST KISS are realistic, and their story is very emtional and has a paranormal twist. In addition to Holly and Tom, most of the characters from the previous Bethlehem books show up, and it's like visiting old friends. However, FIRST KISS stands very well on its own.
