First Meals: The Complete Cookbook and Nutrition Guide

BEST book in its field!!

I'm a nanny and former pre-school teacher, with a degree in child psychology, and think this is the best child nutrition and meal book I've ever seen. The meals ARE quick and easy, the menus at the end of the book are convenient and practical, and the author shows a true aptitude for the topic of the book. This is a book you can continue to use for 5+ years, and its value far exceeds its price.

Love the recipes and the photos too! I do agree that some of the recipes are time intensive but others are quick and easy to make too. Many recipes are difficult only because some of the ingredients I just don't have in my pantry but, this means I go out and buy new foods! I'm not too sure about some of the recipes for the younger babies but for my 8 month old and older children, it's great! This is a keeper to add my cookbook for babies library.

Great recipe book!

Of course for a first time mom, I wanted nothing but healthy food to go into my sons mouth. I am totally no a cook, but this book made making baby food really easy and fun. I would just make a big batch of something green, something yellow, something with protein and some fruit mixes, pour it into some ice cube trays and pop out the desired amount of food for each feeding! So easy. You will need a food processor, freezer bags and ice cube trays. I bought a $30 food processor from target that works great. A lot of other reviews complain that it is time consuming. Well it does take some time, I would say I spend maybe 4 hours a month making baby food for that month. It makes me feel good that I know exactly what is going into my baby's mouth and he is not getting the jarred food that has been heated to the extreme to preserve self life. I also buy organic foods and just use the recipes from this book. I will be gifting this book for all my prego friends!

good for new ideas of fun foods

The recipts have a lot of cut offs pieces and require a more decreative hand than mine. I gave the book to a new mother to give her bigger food choices.

Creative, easy home-made food for babies...

My daughter uses this book for ideas for our 9 month old grandson. There are many suggestions as to age appropriate foods and also some interesting combinations that the baby really likes. This morning she was making a tomato, cauliflower and cheese puree. It has suggested introducing foods like parsnips, papaya, leeks, etc. which he very much enjoys but she never would have thought of (especially since they are not foods his parents "savor"). Some of the suggestions for toddlers look good enough for the entire family to try. If you plan to make your own baby food for whatever reason, I'd suggest considering this book.

Easy Read, Easy Recipes

My husband and I wanted to make our own baby food when we had our first child and I had been looking for a book with great pictures that only used a few ingredients. This book is awesome! the food is so much better than the baby food in the stores. (You aren't scared to try your childs food because you actually know what is in it. Very easy read with recipes I never would have thought of trying. Definitely worth buying and adding to your collection.

Good book, slightly impractical

I've made several of the items from this book and I've enjoyed them (my son threw them on the floor, but that's where most food goes these days). Unfortunately, I work full time and a good portion of the recipies include ingredients not usually in my cupboard. I find it very hard to find the prep time and to fit in the extra grocery stops to make these for my son. This book does have a lot of great information and suggestions for children of all ages, not just recipies. I would recomend as a resource and if you have extra time, the recipies are wonderful.

I browsed online for a baby food book, then finally went to my local B&N to flip through some in person. So glad I found this one, it is BY FAR the best of all the ones I saw. Consice information, lots of variety and beautiful photos. I have used this book a lot in my daughter's first year. This is also a great baby shower gift (along with a set of ice cube trays)!

One AWESOME book!!!

I bought several books in search of a really good one to make my son's baby food. This is the best book out there! There are no crazy, hard-to-find ingredients and the recipes are easy to follow, as well as delicious.

Good recipes

I was in search of a baby food book with recipes for 6 months and older. This book has good recipes for this age, but more so for ages 12 months and up.

Great Book

I absolutely loved this book. The recipes were easy, and the book provided photographs that made the food look wonderfully appetizing. I would recommend it for any parent who is wanting to feed their child more wholesome/less processed foods than you can buy in the grocery store. I also liked the fact that I could make a larger quantity of some of the recipes and then freeze them for future use.

This is the best book ever. I highly recommend it to all. This book would be a great shower gift too. The recipes are wonderful and easy to follow. A must to have in any cookbook library.

Great resource!

This is a great book. My daughter loves the recipes and I love the extra info it gives. I would highly recommend this book to anyone with little ones.

A Must for Every Parent

This is a terrific book! I checked out many books at the Public Library about making baby food and this is the one I HAD to buy. Every recipe I tried my toddler liked. The nutritional and freezing info is extreemyly helpful, and the recipes are easy to make. I especially like the fish recipes and so does my daughter.

Very Good Resource

This book is very helpful in feeding young children. Sections are divided by child's age; many color pictures add interest too. It was well-received at several baby showers.

The best resource I've found

As a new mother I was stymied as to what to feed a ravenous six month old. He wanted anything I'd let him have. I didn't know what to give him first, and this helped me start him out right. He now (at 3) eats almost anything put in front of him. I believe it is because of the rich variety of ingredients I started with.

Wonderful Resource

As a working Mom, I found this book a tremendous resource in both recepies and techniques. My daughter (10 months) loves the ideas and hasn't turned any meals down yet! Best of all, what you learn from this book gives you the confidence to expand beyond it's recipies and creates a great foundation for healthier cooking for all!
