First Picture Animals

First Picture Animals

by Felicity Brooks

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Chris Newsham
Part of the Usborne "First Picture" series, this title introduces preschool age children to the world of animals. Most of the pages of this board book have just one or two sentences of simple text. Some of them include questions that help to engage the audience such as "How many zebras can you spot?" and "How many wings does a dragonfly have?" Clay model figures are labeled and stand out on the simple background pictures that highlight the habitats of each group of animals. Each two-page spread has a different theme, such as "African animals," "in the rainforest," "on the farm," or "under the sea." The final page of the book shows eight of the clay animal models and asks "Can you find where each of these animals comes from in the book?" This book is meant to be shared by a parent and a young child, and would be a good addition to a home library. Reviewer: Chris Newsham
