Overview

This is a 17,400-word novella, the sensual prequel to Striking Distance (I-Team Book 6). It ends with a cliffhanger.

Just a weekend…

Laura Nilsson knows what she wants: a successful career as a broadcast journalist—and a little fun between the sheets now and again. What she doesn’t want is marriage or kids. When a ripped and sexy stranger intervenes to stop a couple of drunks from harassing her in a hotel bar in Dubai City, all she can think about is spending the rest of the weekend with him—in her bed. There’s just one little problem. Unmarried sex is illegal in Dubai.

… of no-strings sex …

Navy SEAL Javier “Cobra” Corbray is on his way home from a rough deployment in Afghanistan when he finds himself having dinner with “the Baghdad Babe.” What she wants from him—sex with no strings—could land them both in prison. Still, he’s more than happy to oblige her. She’s confident and sexually assertive, and he’s secure enough to lie back and let her make the first strike. But, as she’s about to find out, he’s more than her match.

… or the beginning of something more?

Yet, neither Laura nor Javier has any idea what lies ahead—or how this weekend of mind-blowing sex will impact their emotions. Will they act on their new-found feelings in time, or will they let something special slip away… perhaps forever?

Warning: This story ends with a cliffhanger.

    5 Stars is not enough

Javier Corbray is a SEAL in Dubai for a few days to play tourist before he heads home to the South Bronx after a rough deployment. Laura Nilsson is a television news correspondent, and is known of her fearless and honest approach to reporting. When Laura is seated at a table near him it took Javier a moment to realize who she was; the Bagdad Babe - that is what the guys in his platoon called her. Laura wasn’t hard on the eyes, but Javier preferred women with dark hair and curves. She may not have been his first choice in women, but when a few men approach Laura’s table and refuse to leave her alone Javier leaves his table to ensure that the men leave. Laura who wanted nothing more than a quiet dinner while she worked on a story found herself feeling a pull to ask Javier to join her. What started out as two people having dinner alone turns into two people feeling the zing of attraction in a city that premarital sex can land you in jail.

From the eloquent dedication to the last word of the Epilogue it was perfect! ITeam fans will not be disappointed. Yes this book contains lots of steamy scenes but there is a connection as only Pamela Clare can write between the characters too. Javier and Laura both promised that this was a weekend with no strings, but in the end they both felt the stirrings of something more.

Pamela has a large disclaimer before the first chapter that this book has a cliff hanger ending; which makes sense it is the Prequel to Striking Distance. So do not go into this thinking Javier and Laura will have their HEA at the end of First Strike, they do not, and actually if you haven’t read the blurb for Striking Distance you might think a HEA is impossible. Javier and Laura will have an HEA; it is just delayed until Striking Distance. When you read First Strike - make sure you have blocked off time to read - there is no way you will ever want to put this book down.

A perfect beginning to an awesome book, Striking Distance. I honestly cannot say if you need to read this before or after Striking Distance. I know, I know that does not make sense after I just said this was a perfect beginning and I may get shot for saying that but I can honestly see how it could work both ways. I think the back story helps you understand why their separation is so totally devastating but reading it after is like a treat to see their beginning which was everything a no- holds barred, no-strings fling is supposed to be. This is how I wish erotica was written, awesome world building, engaging characters and believable story.
A great addition to the I-Team series and introduction to Laura Nilsson and Javier Corbray who compliment each other in every way. Great sex scenes that are explicit but not just for explicit's sake as it adds meaning to the narrative as well as advance the story to it's conclusion in Striking Distance.

This novella is an erotic and has some serious heat. I am not a professional reviewer just to let you know, I'm more of a professional romance book reader who loves happy endings

I was given a copy of this novella by the author for a unbiased review

Javier is an active duty Navy SEAL. Laura is a well known broadcast journalist.

The two meet unexpectedly in Dubai and share a passionate weekend. It's supposed to be no-strings but they both wish it was different. Before either of them can do anything about it something terrible happens. This is a prequel to Striking Distance, number six in Pamela Clare's I-Team series.

First Strike isn't the end for Javi and Laura, it's just the beginning and I can't wait to finish their story.

    Awesome

    ## Awesome prequel. This book was 70 pages of pure fun and hot sex. Be aware that it ends in a cliffhanger though.

Unfortunately the book that follows "Striking Distance" sucked. Too depressing. Nothing like the other I-Team books. I could barely finish this one. I never like to read about women being raped and tortured.

All I got was the cover!

I purchased this book from BN for $.99. I expected it to be a novella. Instead, there was only the very provacative cover, and not one word of the book. :-(

    My Rating: 3.5 out of 5 *
    Hotness Rating: 4 out of 5 <3

So this little number is just a teaser for the next book. It starts off hot and fast and oh-so yummy.

Javier is nothing short of sex on legs. Built in ways that should be sinful, skilled in ways that are downright dangerous, and smoldering to lowest levels of hell, he is simply illegal. He starts an all-consuming tryst with an investigative reporter—knowing it was only temporary—in a country where such things are against the law. His strength was evident, cause hot damn it was amazing. After all was said and done, he knew he wasn’t done with her.

Laura was an incredibly strong and confident woman, she had to be with her job. She knew what she had to do and she went in and did it. She wasn’t afraid of her sexuality, and embraced a part of her she never knew existed, with Javier. Their tryst only heightened their passion in a country where they had to be incredibly careful. Although she enjoyed her time with him, she found herself not wanting it to end….until…

    CLIFFHANGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was a great ending to a teaser novella! It got me hooked on Laura and Javier’s story and left me staring at my kindle in disbelief. Pamela is a master storyteller and I’m excited to see where their official novel takes us from here.

This novella is about Laura and Javier, the main characters for Striking Distance (I-Team, #6) first encounter and their weekend together, 4 years ago. They meet in Dubai, spend 2 amazing days of sex with no strings but it's apparent there's more than just sex with non-commitments. However, after this weekend each goes on his/her life.

The epilogue of this novella is heart-breaking, so awfull that I cried for Laura... Good thing that I had Striking Distance in my bedside table and could start it immediatelly.

    more from this reviewer

    LOVED IT!

I have been a Pamela Clare fan for quite some time - but there is a special place in my heart for the I-Team!! Every one is better than the last and I'm not sure how since they are all SPECTACULAR!!

That said, even though this book was a mere 70 some pages, HOLY CRAP was it HOT!!

This is simply the prequel to Striking Distance, which comes out in a couple of weeks(THANK GOD!), but it's so steamy you may need some assistance when you finish it, if you know what I mean! *wink*

This book is all about the weekend that Javier and Laura meet. A weekend that is supposed to be simply sex and fun and nothing else, but we all know what happens when that declaration is made?? Oops, we kinda fell in love! :)

Now, you are warned at the beginning that this story has a cliffhanger, obviously because it is the beginning to the actual fill length story but even though you were warned you will be so wrapped up in the emotions in the story that you will forget, I swear, until that's it! The End. And you are left begging to know WHAT NEXT!??

No worries, Ms. Clare is not a cruel person and we only have to wait a couple of weeks to be back together with Javier and Laura and the rest of the I-Team we all love so much!!!

Laura Nilsson is a news reporter who covers news in dangerous situations in countries very different from North America. Javier Corbray is a handsome special operations Navy SEAL on a weekend leave. First Strike is the erotic prequel to Striking Distance and tells us how Javier and Laura met. They were at a restaurant in Dubai when two men approached Laura and would not leave. Being a SEAL Javier felt had to help Laura by getting rid of the men. Javier and Laura end up having a drink and talking a bit. They decide to have sex - no strings attached. This was tricky for them because in Dubai there are laws that unmarried men and women cannot be alone together so they had to be very careful.

At the end of the weekend, they leave each other as agreed but both are thinking that they will find the other someday. Then there is the epilogue which is two months later and tells us something awful happens to Laura. Javier swears he will get back at the ones responsible. Definitely a cliff hanger ending.

I won this book in a giveaway from Blithely Bookish Blog.
