First Surrender suits this novella perfectly. Why? So many reasons...Sierra has not been with anyone intimately, never loved or wanted anyone like she does Hayden. Not to mention Hayden has a dominant side that requires her to surrender. Submit to his dominance.
Sierra a chef, Hayden an ex-marine that now is Security for The Serafina Casino. Quite the mix. First an on going friendship between Sierra and Hayden. Never truly the right moment to make a step further until Sierra is attacked. Hayden's protective nature, his love for her and his need to be within her rises rapidly.
Sierra found her life turned upside down by the attack on her. Shaken up she finds comfort with Hayden.
I truly found it hard to place this book down. Wanting to know who was after Sierra and why? If Hayden and Sierra would have a white hot firey passion ignite between them? I thoroughly enjoyed this read and would recommend this book for anyone that loves a dominant male, protective, caring yet can handle any danger.

Sierra is an accomplished chef at Cloud 9 restaurant. She also has a low self esteem thanks to her mother and sister who believe that your looks are everything in life! Sierra doesn't realize how gorgeous she really is. Hayden, is the second-in-command of the hotel's security a former Seal and a handsome hunk! Sierra has been attracted to Hayden since they met. Hayden secretly feels the same but feels he's not worthy of her. Something happens that finally brings their feelings out into the open.
Loved the story line and all the characters. It's a hot and steamy romance with suspense and action. It grabs you in from the beginning till the end. Even though it's a short story it's well worth the read and I highly recommend it and look forward to reading more by this author(BO).

Stars: Overall 4 Narration 4 Story 4
The first book in the Serafina, Sin City series is a wonderful novella and one of the better introductions to an author’s work that I have experienced. My first option to review a Katie Reus title starts in a Las Vegas casino and features characters that are familiar (I am told) from her Red Stone Security Series.
Sierra is the head chef at the casino’s restaurant, and over the past year she and Hayden have formed a great friendship, although both have a closer relationship in mind. When she is attacked leaving work one night Hayden feels the need to step in and take care of her. Security is ramping up, and the questions about the ‘who’ and ‘why’ are on everyone’s mind.
Hayden didn’t want Sierra to be alone, so he brought her home with him. While his intentions were leaning to seduction, his absorbed claiming of her, the comfort he feels with her, and the desire to share thoughts, feelings and his past with her have him confused. Always attracted to her, he was more than a bit broken when he retired from his military service, and she was the only one to call him on his bad behavior. Unknown to him, she was also fantasizing about him, and wanting to get closer, the only thing stopping her was her own issues with self-esteem. Growing up she was in the shadow of her older sister, always feeling chubby and less, and still believed that men would want her sister, not her, for romance.
While there are a couple of steamy scenes, the more heartwarming moments are the honest communication and Hayden’s willingness to try to answer questions that are not easy, and his obvious desire to claim her for his very own.
Narration is provided by Ryan Hudson, and he manages to balance soft moments with the harsher responses or action scenes without over-acting or overly emphatic expletives, tone changes or voice manipulation to indicate the different characters. It’s the perfect tone and presentation for a story told predominantly in Hayden’s point of view, and feels natural.
My first Katie Reus book, and it will not be my last – she may even convert me from my lack of interest in ex-military stories, a trope that has never really stirred me to read.
I received an AudioBook copy of the title via AudioBook Jukebox for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Great Series! First Surrender is the first book in The Serafina: Sin City Series. I had read the other books in this series, but hadn't read this one yet. As all of the books can be read as stand alone books in my opinion, it was fine that I didn't read this one first.
Hayden and Sierra both work at the Serafina Hotel and Casino-Hayden in security and Sierra as the head chef at Cloud 9. They had been friends for a year, but even though they both had strong feelings for each other, neither had acted on them...until Sierra was attacked in the parking garage at the Serafina. This event had Hayden admitting his feelings to Sierra and changing their relationship to much more then friendship.
This was a very hot but sweet romantic suspense story that I thoroughly enjoyed. It's a short story, but had all the good things a romantic suspense story has-from a crazy stalker, to hot and steamy moments, ending in love. This book is a great beginning to an awesome series. If you like Katie Reus' Red Stone Security series, you will like this one!

So many times, shorter stories don’t need to be any longer. This story holds up and could have supported a longer book. It’s all about a woman discovering her own sexuality, betrayal, attempted murder, friendship, and of course, sex. Very enjoyable story.

140 pages--This is the first book in the spin-off series about the Serfina Sin City series (for Wyatt & Iris--story which should in my opion be read first -Breaking Her Rules--a Red Stone Security book), This was a very good start to the new series--read it all in one sitting and am looking forward to the second one in this new seriesWas this review helpful? Sierra and Hayden both work at the Serafina and have been friends since they started working at the hotel and casino resort a year ago. Ever since then, they’ve had a standing “friend date” every Thursday night. Their friendship has grown over the year and both Sierra and Hayden have developed feelings for one other that go beyond more than the parameters of their friendship. Sierra is afraid this gorgeous former Navy SEAL doesn’t feel the same way so she keeps her feelings under wraps. Hayden would like nothing more than to claim this woman who has stolen his heart, but fears that he isn’t good enough for her.
A misunderstanding on their date night has Sierra heading home. As she enters the employee parking garage, she is attacked by a masked intruder but is scared away by Hayden’s brother before her attacker can finish the job. Hayden hears about the attack and rushes to Sierra’s side. He could have lost her and that just doesn’t sit well with him, Hayden decides to put his fears aside and claim the woman he desires above all others.
Hayden takes Sierra to his home to protect her while her attack is being investigated. He lets Sierra know how he feels…and then he shows her. WOW! The love scenes in this novella are scorching! I love a damaged hero and Hayden not thinking he was good enough for Sierra just about broke my heart. Their love story was beautiful. The mystery behind Sierra’s attack was solved quickly and the couple were able to claim their long-awaited happily ever after.
First Surrender gives us a quick view into what this new series is all about. And I have to tell you, I am really looking forward to it! The Serafina: Sin City series is a spin-off from the author’s Red Stone Security series. Both are equally exciting reads filled with dangerously hot men and even hotter romances. I HIGHLY recommend this and any one of Katie Reus’s books. She is a wonderful story teller and is always able to wrangle a happily ever after, even in the worst of circumstances.

This book was so short the author seemed to have started in the middle of the story. Too much of the f-word. I did not care for this book at all. I like this author but she failed on this one.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

Hayden is an ex-seal who came to work for The Serafina Casino in security about a year ago. Broody, dangerous, and all Alpha, he comes across big and threatening, but he never scared the casino's pretty young chef much. From the moment they met, she has had no problem calling him out on his dark moods, and in fact seems to lighten them significantly. He has a hard time controlling his attraction for her.
Sierra has strong feelings for Hayden, but she is not willing to risk the tight friendship they have built over the past year, despite their age difference and the man's surly disposition. Besides, she has convinced herself he doesn't look at her that way, and he wouldn't look at all if he ever found out how inexperienced she really is. No, if they keep hanging out together regularly, she was just going to have to be satisfied with that.
When Sierra is attacked one evening, leaving the Casino upset, Hayden no longer is able to hold back on his feelings and goes into full protective Alpha mode. Sierra is swept off to Hayden's apartment for safekeeping and he is determined not to let her out of his sight. A task he apparently takes quite seriously. Not that you will hear Sierra complaining much, she is finally where she has wanted to be for along time, and by the look of things, she is not the only one burning with passion....
This story is the start of a brand new series that I cannot wait to read, if this book is an indication of what the series will be like!! The book is part of a book bundle WICKED FIRSTS, but can also be purchased individUually.
This is one hot novella, which has some really great suspense packed in as well!!
I absolutely loved the characters:
Sierra, a young but very capable and self sufficient, successful chef, who knows the value of a good friendship and despite the fact that she is sexually inexperienced, she is not naive, nor is she passive or afraid of passion.
Hayden is my perfect hero, all grumbly, bossy, protective and sweet. I love that in a guy, have just never met one in real life (¿). He is very confident in abilities when it comes to his work, the physical aspects, but he doesn't quite believe in his own worth when it comes to Sierra.......silly man!!!!
Katie Reus' writing is deliciously thrilling, as I have come to expect. It's one of the reasons why, when a new book of hers comes out, I know for a fact that my craving for both suspense red-hot romance will satisfied!! A new series, like "The Serafina: The Sin City Series", promises a multitude of satisfied cravings!!!
¿Stimulating, sexy, sensational intro to Sin City¿

This short story will definitely have you looking for more great stories by Katie Reus. The suspense between Sierra and Hayden was very well developed for only 80 pages. I do wish that it was a full length novel, but that is only because of how much I love Katie's books. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. The "friend zone" is not where either Sierra or Hayden want to be, but how do you go from friend status to potential lover status? Hayden and Sierra started work at the Serafina, owned by Wyatt Christiansen (Breaking Her Rules) around the same time. After retiring from the Navy, Hayden was hired to work under Iris Christiansen (Breakin Her Rules) in security. Sierra is a chef, and was transferred from another of Wyatt's hotels.
Every week, Hayden and Sierra have a standing "date" for dinner, drinks, and occasionally dancing. Every week for almost a year. While they both wanted more, neither is willing to risk their friendship...until Sierra is threatened. Then, Hayden's not playing around anymore. He's going to protect her from whoever is out there stalking her. He's going to make her his, too!
My favorite quote from this book:
"Not only was Sierra the sweetest, most sensual woman he knew, she f'ing owned him. Even if she didn't know it yet." Location 118
I'm a die-hard Katie Reus fan. She consistently writes great characters and great stories. First Surrender is the start of her new series, The Serafina: Sin City Series, and it definitely has me ready to dive into a new world of her making. I loved Hayden and Sierra's romance and look forward to seeing more of them, as well as the other new characters, in Sin City.

## It was just ok for me. Yes, Hayden was sweet. But it was so short, there was no character development. The couple was already in love when the story began. And the suspense was over so quick that if you blinked you missed it. The sex however was hot, ergo 3 stars. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. I adore this author and I LOVED this story! I've made it no secret that I am in love with Katie's Red Stone Security series so it should be a given I would love this one. Both characters are on my favorites list now. Hayden is seriously hot and so so sweet! And I thought Sierra was a great match for him. The story was too short for me but only because I wanted more of Hayden and I didn't want it to end.
This story has a bit of suspense and a bit of action but it's mostly just the sweet beginning of Hayden and Sierra. I loved it and I am so looking forward to more from this series!!! :)
*I originally read this as part of the Wicked Firsts Anthology

Wow! The action started almost immediately. I normally do not like such short books because you really do not get to know the characters real well, but I think with it being a spin-off and knowing a couple of the characters already helped. This is really a great intro to a new series! One that I look forward to continuing!
