I have to admit when I first sat down to read this book, despite the simple tools and language, the sheer VOLUME of information was a little intimidating. It seemed like a lot of steps, until I actually gathered the supplies and DID IT. What takes a page to explain takes about 30 seconds to actually DO, so I very quickly got over any anxiety and made my first quilt. Not only will a beginning quilter be able to do the "simplest" quilt in the book, a beginner realizes that they have learned the skills to create ANY quilt they see, not just one-blocks. With very basic sewing skills, you can take these same quilt patterns and make pillows, tote bags, clothing, tablecloths - any number of accessories. So I consider this book to be one of the best investments a beginning quilter OR seamstress could make.

Highly recommend for the firs-time quilter and beyond. Very well illustrated and very useful as a guide from beginning to end. I am teaching my granddaughter to quilt with the book and we find it very informing because it has steps from A-Z.

This book was great! I never made a quilt in my life, and just learned how to sew a year ago. I made a quilt for my friends baby and it turned out adorable! The book really was excellent with images and visually showed you how to do things. I highly recommend this book for someone learning how to quilt!

First-Time Quiltmaking: Learning To Quilt In Six Easy Lessons by Becky Johnston is an excellent 'get-started' book. No prior experience is assumed by lessons that walk the beginner through preparing the fabric, sewing accurate seams, assembling the quilt top, making the quilt sandwich, and finishing the quilt. Full-color photographs and numerous step-by-step diagrams add a visual touch to this easy-to-use guide, spiral-bound to lay flat for easy reference while quilting. Highly recommended for anyone interested in learning the creative craft of quilting.
