Gr 3-4-These two whimsical adventures of Mr. Pin, a chocolate-loving, philodendron-growing penguin who happens to be a master detective, should have a wacky appeal for young readers. In the first selection, Mr. Pin solves the mystery of the great Chicago flood by plugging the leak in the river bottom with instant chocolate-pudding mix-``A good way to get rid of bad chocolate.'' In the second episode, he finds his fish, Yum, who has been fishnapped by a fiendish baker. The stories are slight but fun with their word play and off-center look at a world in which a penguin detective is perfectly normal.-Anne Connor, Los Angeles Public Library
