Editorial Reviews

Southwestern Ohio Young Adult Materials Review Group
"[A] fast-paced thriller...The Rapid Reads line of books is perfect for the adult on the go who desires an intriguing read that can be devoured in one sitting."
CM Magazine
"As the search for the killer intensifies, so does the pace of the novel. In just 141 pages, Heneghan makes his characters come alive...[and] provides just enough detail to make the victim's terror absolutely visceral."
VOYA - MaryAnn Harlan
Women who workout, beware! There is a serial killer on the loose, and it may be you that he is going to kill next—at least, this is how the women in Vancouver's West End feel. A serial killer has been brutally murdering women and leaving them on public display. Sebastian, a local reporter, who is overweight and starts a new exercise regime, starts to notice a pattern with the killings. So who will be next? A quick read for those that like to watch crime TV shows, the plot is very action-oriented and will keep the reader guessing. The characters are believable and the setting is crime-scene realistic. Readers will be intrigued as to how the serial killer chooses his victims and what his MO is. The cover of the novel may not entice teen readers, so this will need to be booktalked to find an audience. (Rapid Reads) Reviewer: MaryAnn Harlan
Children's Literature - Loretta Caravette
This book is Part of the "Rapid Reads" series and with its low word count and uncomplicated structure you do get through the story quickly. At a local gym in Vancouver's West End, a woman is getting ready to leave after her workout. It is late and the streets are empty. She sees a man in a doorway and starts to walk quickly to her house a few blocks away. She hears heavy footsteps behind her. She runs and before she can get to her door the man grabs her. She tries to defend herself but he is too strong. "All she knew before she died was the sound of his voice, the scream of the wind and the cold wet earth." They find her body the next day. She is decapitated. A second murder happens in the same area and with the same gruesome decapitation—a serial killer is at work. Our unlikely hero is Sebastian Casey. Casey is a writer for the local paper. He doesn't actually solve the mystery but because the paper is reporting the murders, he becomes aware of the limited details. Casey just joined the same gym where the two women who were murdered had been members. Casey lives across the street from the Kayle's house. Matty is a nice woman but in a loveless marriage. Her husband, Albert, is distant and cruel. Matty owns the house, yet Albert forbids her from going in the basement. Matty dreams of killing him. The murders continue—all the women work out, all have been decapitated. Casey becomes involved with a woman from the area who also goes to the gym. One night he has a feeling she might be in trouble. But if you're looking for him to solve the mystery, you will be very unsatisfied. Reviewer: Loretta Caravette
