Full of adventure, lies, political power plays, and sexy men.

I received a free copy of the book from the author, but it doesn't affect my review.

    THE SHORT VERSION:
I fully admit that I stayed up until 6 a.m. reading the last 60% of this book. I tore through it quickly, in only two days, so it's a fast and light read. Five has humor, spunk, and a thrilling imagination to it. Bits of the story were left unraveled at the end...bits that could have used explaining...but since it's the first in a series, I'd imagine we find that out later. While our main character's spunk made me love her, her resolve can be shaky and she occasionally acted in ways I thought were out of character. However, this book is full of sarcasm, quips, sexy men, and a political power play that adds an intriguing twist.

    THE DETAILS:
I'm honestly not entirely sure where to start with Five. The Story itself is interesting because Rich has woven together two distinct worlds: ours, and the magical, hidden realm of Faeresia. While I'm not personally a huge fan of the name, her descriptions were delightful and imaginative and her creatures were vivid and real.

Our MC, Rayla, is a sassy girl that runs away from home to persue her dreams. She wants to be an artist, and she's actually really good. Her future is everything to her, and no one is going to take that from her. Well, that is, until several beautiful men start courting her. And by courting, I mean they're trying to kidnap her in the night because they're actually magical beings called fae, and she's the key to making them more powerful. Unstoppable, actually.

Scary. Too bad they're all drop-dead gorgeous. That's a little distracting.

So the characters are pretty well done. Though the men were initially a little bit stereotypical ("latin lover" and "jungle warrior"), they are unique and their personalities develop over the course of the book. Rayla and her best friend, Cassie, are a hoot. There's a ton of snark and humor that kept me glued to their development, and I loved the side stories that played within the book. The villains are, on the whole, also unique. And, damn it, they're sexy too.

There's an entire political undertone to Five that makes it more than chick lit and team-whoever reading. We discover why Rayla's being pursued, and why she's unique to anyone else that has also had to endure this strange courting process. We learn how some of the men want to use her, and we're constantly wondering if any of them actually care.

The pacing was pretty good, and any editing issues were minor and mostly unnoticeable while reading. The voice itself was strong and vivid on the whole, with just a few dramatic or flowery bits, and I just loved the imagination of the fae world, the trolls, and the magical beings. Styx is probably my favorite creature, and Zach my favorite character.

This is a good book. I mean, 4 stars and all. There were some plot developments that confused me, or led me astray in a way that was never explained or corrected. But there were several more moments where I laughed out loud, and the characters Rich builds are fun and very sexy. If you're a fan of a bit of sexual tension, power plays, self discovery, and a look into the magical, I think you'll enjoy this.

So lemme start by saying fantastic story!! It¿s so intriguing!!

So lemme start by saying fantastic story!! It’s so intriguing!! It starts out easy, simple, and then BLOWS UP!!! I love when the Fae get all crazy, and this story is so full of mystery and secrets and HAWT MALE PIECES!! Lol All a girl wants to do is go to college and have a normal life! Is that really too much to ask for? Why yes, yes it is! Hahahaha

So Rayla is your main character and I really enjoy her perception. I say that because she is an artsy kid who loves to create things like painting and sculpture and she has NO CLUE about being some thing special. Yet she’s terrified of the dark… She and her best friend run off to college and find themselves in quite a predicament. Rayla is freaking out and trying to figure out how to live a life on some normalcy and survive the crazy Fae at the same time. Hmmm,
    Sounds complicated doesn’t it

I really like her friend Cassie, though for a while I wanted to strangle her. But she’s trying to figure her own mess out and somehow she’s wrapped up with the Fae as well. And then, THERE’S ALL THESE HAWT DUDES!!! They are falling from trees and popping out of sidewalks hahahaha ummm could I have like JUST ONE!!! I’m particularly fond of Zach but there’s some things he’s hiding and you have to read to find out! But who cares he’s HAWT! Lol and I couldn’t believe the twists this story took on, which just kept me sucked in!

So my lesson from this book and so many others- DON’T HIDE STUFF FROM YOUR KIDS!! You know, you’ve got Fae blood, you’re half vampire, you’re some kinda powerful something- because it will bite you in your @$$ later hahahaha this story was a very fast read to me because I HAD TO KNOW who was who, and what happened, and where’s it all gunna lead! it can be classified as YA or adult because it’ll be enjoyable for anybody! I suggest you read it to find out what I mean! 5 BIG PAWS!! I can’t wait to read the next book!!

Rayla goes of to college, an secretly not the one her family thinks she´s going to. By doing this she reveals herself to a world she never knew existed, and to men who she never knew were looking for her..and that is how she finds out she isn´t really what she thinks she is.

This book is one of those you want to keep reading to find out more and more. At the end I felt a little confused for so much was happening, at least that is how I felt. I liked that the characters were a little older than usual. I didn´t really want to stop reading when ever I started, I don´t really know what exactly it was that I liked in it, but I really liked it nevertheless! Sometimes I reading a book even if I feel like I know what is going to happen. This time I liked this book because I really didn´t know what would happen next.

    A very enjoyable read...

I enjoyed this book. I am not sure I can say I LOVED it but I really enjoyed reading it. I get the feeling the deeper I get into the series the LOVE part will come. The first book really had a ton of stuff packed into it. The one thing I really like about this book is that it is about the Fae and yet isn't full of a bunch of sexual stuff. Don't get me wrong... there are some gorgeous men (and women) talked about but not in a way that would make me blush. This book is totally appropriate for high school girls to read. The 'heroine' even has some morals which is an added bonus!! Some of the characters are pretty complex. You think you have a character figured out then something happens and you about drop your Nook (or Kindle, or actual book). TWICE that happened to me during reading. I really wasn't sure if I was interested in continuing the series until about 3/4 of the way through. So, stick with it if you decide to read and just can't quite figure it out. I have already started book #2 and look forward to reading the rest of the series.

    Five

My favorite part of this book is the characters, mostly Cassie because of how real she is. I know that if a monster from hell almost attacked me but then dissapeared i would blame my imagination afterwards. That is exacally what she did. Not many people can deal with that. Roger is a unique character, evil but unique. I dont like how the author suddenly makes Luke completly change from annoyingly cocky to sweet at the end of the book just becaue she needs Ryla to choose between Luke or Zack. In my opinion, Ryla should choose Zack, he seems so much sexier, Luke seems like a fake.

I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. This is an awesome beginning to a great series! Rayla escapes her over protective aunt to go away to college. She finds out more about herself than she's bargained for as she has drop dead gorgeous men vying for her affections. The story gets even deeper as she realizes she might have to fight her attraction to them in order to prevent being trapped forever. I love a good fae story, and this is certainly one of them. This story was truly unique, one you can easily get absorbed into once you get over the, “I'm attracted to everyone” thing. The book gets far more interesting during the second half which sets up a great stage for further additions to the series.

Five is a coming-into-her-own/paranormal romance novel written

Five is a coming-into-her-own/paranormal romance novel written by Christie Rich. As Rayla Tate is just beginning to figure out who she is and what she may want out of life, she also finds that life and the fae may have alternate plans in store for her.

When I first began reading Five, I wasn't a fan. Christie Rich was incredibly detailed and descriptive when giving the reader as much of the back story as possible, without giving away any plot twists and turns that may be in store later on. While those are typically both good things to have in a novel, they just seemed to make the first few chapters slow-moving. However, later on those sluggish moments were important details to the story.

Once the momentum picked up, it kept up a steady and engaging pace throughout the rest of the book. Christie Rich's characters are very relatable . She also has an ability to describe a setting and make you feel as if you are actually there, right next to the characters. I found myself experiencing the emotional ups and downs right along with Rayla as her life unfolds before her. There is a cliff hanger at the end which forces you to purchase the sequels if you are interested in continuing Rayla's and her friends journey. I know I am.

    Started well, but...

The book started well enough, in spite of a few typos, but then it started to take itself too seriously, and it went downhill from there. The characters didn't always have consistent personalities, and while I liked the pace for most of it, it became rushed towards the end. The worst part, though, was the love triangle. The girl spends most of the book interested in one guy, but then she catches a ride with another guy, and after just a few hours staring into his eyes, goes into that "Woe is me! I love two men and can't decide!" nonsense. That sounded the death knell for the book, because I was so busy rolling my eyes that I could barely finish it. I won't be getting the sequel, even if it's free.

Five is book one in the Elemental Emnity Series by Christie L. R

Five is book one in the Elemental Emnity Series by Christie L. Rich. Let me start off by saying, I loved this book! Loved it! Five brings you fun characters, an exciting plot, and handsome fae lords that kept me up all night reading. Rayla is a very relatable character. I think everyone had that yearning to get out there, spread their wings, and see what life was all about. The fact that she had five unbelievably handsome guys chasing her the moment she got to college added to the fun. Especially as the story progressed and you learned more about Rayla and why they wanted her. I'm no sold on her best friend, Cassie yet. I know she has her own drama going on, but she didn't seem like a good friend to me. Back to Rayla, she has these guys throwing themselves at her, and you don't know who to trust or who has hidden agendas. Plus, there is a secret society that's scheming behind the scenes. I felt like each character has purpose within the story. I'm a big fan of Onyx! He had me curious even before I knew his name. I'm Team Zach, but I'm not sure I totally trust him either. Luke is growing on me too. Decisions! Decisions!

Five by Christie L. Rich was provided to me by the author for review. The opinions are my own.

This book starts out with a bang. I was pulled in from the first few pages. You start out with one viewpoint in the story and it twists until it has taken on an entirely different direction.

I thought the story was well plotted and was dying to find out what was going to happen. The author did a good job creating suspense and mystery. The REAL story didn't really start until Rayla and Cassie leave home. Then the book starts to reveal the story in layers. With each layer, more knowledge is gleamed.

    The romance....

Okay, so I really enjoyed the romance part of the story. I mean, come on, who wouldn't want fae lords throwing themselves at your feet? Every girl wants to be adored. I found myself feeling out the characters, hoping for a happy ending for Rayla.

At the end, I was dying to figure out who Rayla had picked, when she just didn't. I was seriously like, ugh, what??? I understand, though I didn't like it. Book one was mainly setting you up for the rest of the series.

I liked this book a great deal more than I expected to. I WILL be rushing to read the next two books, Dark Matter and Genesis. I need closure in the story, and I'm sure I won't be getting that until the very end. It's a great YA paranormal romance book. It deserves five glittery stars for a great read and for being superb of course!

    Five for FIVE!

Five started out with young Rayla just feeling she has taken hold of her life and has found a direction for her future. She starts to 'see' things, including incredibly handsome men who all seem to have eyes only for her! Nope, not a teen love triangle with a couple of mysterious and drop dead gorgeous guys, but FIVE drop dead gorgeous Fae Princes who all want her, but she's clueless as to why. As the story unfolds, Rayla is caught up in the world of the Fae, as she discovers she is a rare and coveted Elemental.

There is a good pace to the story once it gets going, good 'tension' between characters, and quite a few twists heading to a finish that made me want the next book NOW! I actually double-checked that I hadn't missed something! A thoroughly entertaining read! Great start to the series! 4.5 stars!

This copy of Five was given to me by Christie Rich and Making Connection YA @ Goodreads in exchange for an honest review.
