Overview

"Five Free Things" is the ultimate travel guide to free things to see and do in top destinations in the United States. For each destination, you’ll find an itinerary with five essential places or experiences all free of charge. These include historic sites, museums, monuments, churches, architecture and art. The guide will point you across historic bridges, get you aboard scenic ferries, take you to the best neighborhoods and show you the way to leisurely waterfront strolls. Plus tips on hikes, trails, beaches, markets, parks, gardens and gorgeous views.

"Five Free Things" grew out of a weekly series published by The Associated Press. So every list is curated by AP journalists who live, work and play in the places they write about. We asked every writer questions to help enhance the travel experience. Where would you take a visitor? Where do you go to experience this city? What are the musts that define your destination as long as they don’t cost a thing?

So you’re not just getting the tourist basics, you’re also getting advice from experts about the most beautiful, meaningful, interesting and unique spots in their corners of the world. "Five Free Things" offers a fun and fantastic way to experience destinations around the U.S.
