Children's Literature - Anita Lock
This two-in-one rhyming book from the unique "Tadpoles Nursery Rhymes" series features the first verses from the original rhyme and an alternate rhyme that are presented in couplets on each two page spread. These verses are then reintroduced in their entirety at the end of each rhyme, followed by a question for the reader to answer: "Can you point to the rhyming words?" The book closes with a "Puzzle Time" math page and a suggestion page for adults. Children who are familiar with the traditional rhyme may find this book tedious, since they may anticipate subsequent verses. Moses' alternate rhyme, accompanied by Chambers' playful illustrations, offers a helpful example as well as encouragement for readers to create their own rhymes. Geared to children age's five to eight, and would work well as a read-aloud in a kindergarten class. Will appeal to both boys and girls. Reviewer: Anita Lock
