Overview

You don't just move here and immediately become a Texan; it takes training. This delightfully witty book takes you through the process of understanding our conversation, why and how we dress the way we do, why pickups are a fact of life, and how you can acquire the necessary big hair. Fixin' to Be Texan pokes gentle fun at the Texas mystique. Residents of the state will get a big kick out of Bryant's clever way of identifying our predominant characteristics. Newcomers will use it as a tool for understanding the wonderful and sometimes incomprehensible behavior of our fine native population.

WOW! After moving to Texas from Virginia several years ago, I had a hard time getting any answers to the important questions about this state, the way people acted and why. Seems everyone I knew was a 'Native' Texan, most had never traveled outside of the state, and therefore did not understand my confusion. Upon reading this book, most of my questions were answered. It was amazing that the book seemed to be written directly from my own personal life and experiences! After reading the book, I read the forward, and found out that the author was also from Virginia, which explains the similarities in perspective. I would highly recommend this book to anyone you know who is or has moved to Texas, who is curious about the oddities of Texans, or any 'Native' Texans you know with a sense of humor!

My family and I moved to Texas 6 months ago. Mrs. Bryant describes this beautiful state perfectly and with the greatest sense of humor. A must read if you relocate to Texas or plan to visit. It also answered many of our 'newcomer' questions - the kind you are afraid to ask... Texas is a great state and this is a great book.
