Overview

This guide will appeal to sailors who are interested in learning about some of the most attractive and challenging sailing venues in the American West. It notes how to reach such venues while providing historical, geological, cultural, and meteorological information as well as maps and photographs on each of these destinations.

The first part describes the early years of the Djos as a trailer sailing family and the wonders and hard experience they gained on the water some 20 years ago.

Four areas are covered: Lake Powell, the Pacific Northwest and Canada, southern California, and Mexico. Each includes narratives on the author's cruising experience along with information that might be of interest and practical advice on visiting and sailing the area. The middle chapter of each section describes how a storm or challenging event was managed and the tactics employed.

Each area also contains an abbreviated cruising guide or sidebar on matters of special interest to trailer sailors.

The useful Appendix includes practical tips on trailer maintenance, driving techniques, small boat provisioning, and small boat safety.

Royal Navy Sailing Association
A very different and interesting book, (it) describes the experiences of sailing a 26-footer in four different areas. Lake Powell is 170 miles long in Nevada and Arizona, with lots of canyons, shallow patches, and a height range of over 100 feet...In the northwest, he explored Puget Sound and the islands around Vancouver. He sailed along the coast of southern California and again explored the off-lying islands. The final section being about Gulf of California... Each narrative section is followed by a comprehensive reference section. If you are ever thinking of doing this sort of thing, this book is a good place to start. Even if you are not, it is a good read.
Arts Fuse
Fixing Positions by Matts Djos is trailer sailing at its best, worst, and occasionally taking it to the extreme. Matts doesn t just launch his sailboat at the nearest ramp, he drives hundreds of miles through deserts and across mountain passes, towing the boat to his destination launch point so that he and his wife Jeanine can sail a desired area far from the madding crowd.

A multifaceted book, Fixing Positions is filled with adventures, misadventures, cruising and towing tips.
