Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Renee Farrah
A variety of information is covered in this comprehensive look at flamingos, which is broken down into kid-friendly sentences. Featuring color photographs and images, some topics include the different types of flamingos, their diets, predators, why they are pink, their anatomy and most importantly, whether or not their knees bend backward. There is also reassurance that although flamingos eat lots of carotene, children will not turn pink by eating carrots. The effects of climate change and pollution are affecting the world's flamingo population. At the end of the book, there are suggestions about how to be green in your own life in order to protect the flamingos' habitat. Part of the "All Aboard Reading" series, this is a great way to cover lots of information without overwhelming a beginner reader. The assortment of pictures supports the wonder and curiosity of the text, making this an excellent tool for book reports or pleasure reading. Reviewer: Renee Farrah
