This book focuses on skills to harness motion graphics in Flash MX, including:
* Digitizing video, and capturing, saving, and editing sound
* Incorporating text animation and bitmap images
* Working around constraints such as file sizes and the limitations of the computer screen

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble Review
Flash is emerging as a powerful medium for creating new experiences, and few Flash designers have gone as far down this road as Euna Seol. To see some of her deeply evocative work, visit www.seoleuna.com (it’ll really be worth your time). To learn how to use Flash to create powerful experiences of your own, read her book Flash MX Motion Graphics.

Seol shares hard-won techniques for arranging and optimizing sound, for achieving clean video resolution with minimum file size, for using text effectively. But this isn’t the place to learn Flash features in isolation. What makes the book special is Seol’s focus on bringing bitmaps, vectors, sound, and interaction together to deepen the experience you’re building.

The heart of the book is a series of Seol’s own projects, from Christmas cards to complete web sites: projects that create rhythmic visuals which won’t let go of you; “applications” that “evaluate” how similar you are to the author; reenactments of video scenes using stills and low-bandwidth effects; and much more. If Seol’s work isn’t enough, the book also contains interviews with several remarkable Flash designers, from Todd Purgason to Hillman Curtis. It will inspire you. Bill Camarda

    Dedicated to Motion Graphics Only

FLASH MX Motion Graphics AUTHOR: Seol Euna PUBLISHER: Sybex REVIEWED BY: Barbara Rhoades BOOK REVIEW: Motion Graphics is just one of the elements of Flash. It has many features allowing web designers/developers to use video, multimedia, and application development when creating interfaces or e-learning courses or even advertising. The CD included with this book contains a trial version of Flash MX and each chapter¿s files allowing the reader to refer to what the text says. The first three chapters give an in-depth look at what is Motion Graphics, the process of digitalizing video taken with a camcorder and how to add sound to that video. Other chapters discuss masks, text animation and there is even one chapter showing the website of a TV designer. The book is well laid out with step-by-step instructions on how to do what the chapter is talking about. There is plenty of color as each chapter has a different color for its pages, the graphic displays are easy to see and there are plenty of them. With Flash being such a varied product, this book covers only one small portion of what this program can do. For the $45.00 price, you get only a small part of what it does. If that is the thing you want concentrate on doing with Flash, pick up a copy.
