Chosen as a 2014 YALSA Amazing Audiobook for Young Adults

He was tall, at least six feet, with dirty blond hair that hung over his eyes. His T-shirt read Nietzsche Is My Homeboy.

So, that was Matt. Who Julie Seagle likes. A lot. But there is also Finn. Who she flat out loves.

Complicated? Awkward? Completely.

But really, how was this freshly-minted Boston transplant and newbie college freshman supposed to know that she would end up living with the family of an old friend of her mother's? This was all supposed to be temporary. Julie wasn't supposed to be important to the Watkins family, or to fall in love with one of the brothers. Especially the one she's never quite met. But what does that really matter? Finn gets her, like no one ever has before. They have connection.

But here's the thing about love, in all its twisty, bumpy permutations—it always throws you a few curves. And no one ever escapes unscathed.

Editorial Reviews

Heather Webber
Humorous, thoughtful, clever, and at times heartbreaking, Flat-out Love is about love, loss, and the great lengths a family will go to protect one of their own. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll root for a seemingly elusive happily ever after. No doubt about it, Flat-out Love is flat-out fabulous.

This book was so outrageously good... It's at the top of my favorites. It has surpassed...dare I say it?...my deeply beloved Nicholas Sparks. Park wrote a novel unlike any other... Characters? Check. Fantastic writing? Check. A book that clearly stands out among any other? Check. A book that is so wonderful that I practically demand that you buy it right now so we can talk about it? Check.

I loved it so much that I’m already considering how long I should wait before re-reading it. Yes, I loved it that much... The romance in this one is amazing because it’s a slow building, feel it in your stomach kind of love...

This is a beautifully written novel with incredibly crafted characters. Every person in the story feels like someone I know personally. I was drawn so deeply into the story that I stayed up all night finishing the book. The end may not be what everyone expects but the journey is everything.

Jessica Park has put out a YA novel that pushes the boundaries. Instead of another vampire book, she chose to treat us to a look at a uniquely dysfunctional family. Absorbing reading for any student of psychology, or just humanity in general; this book explores what happens when you drop a stranger into a family who is adept at covering up their past pain - to the point of denying it.
