┬┐A Little Poetry, A Lot of Recipes┬┐

    Flavors of the Seasons Cookbook
Written by: Helen Steiner Rice
Published by: Barbour
Reviewed by: Stephanie Rollins for ReviewYourBook.com 1/2009
ISBN: 978-1-59789-674-0
¿A Little Poetry, A Lot of Recipes¿ 5 stars
Helen Steiner Rice is famous for her writing. I was a bit skeptical about her ability to write a cookbook. She proved that she can do it and do it well.
The recipes are divided in to the 4 seasons. The Summer section has light recipes that use fresh ingredients. The Frozen Fruit Cups are delicious and easy to make. Even the Citrus Beef with Kaffir Lime and Lemon Grass has a light spin on it. To satisfy the sweet tooth, she included recipes for Lemon Lush and Strawberry Pie
The Fall section has a harvest feel to it. The Rock Cornish Game Hen Stuffed with Wild Mushroom Ragout and the Warm and Spicy Apple Cider are great for every day and the holidays. The Delightful and Delicious Apple Crisp, Pumpkin Pastry, and Jelly Coffee Cake are sure to please all.
Her Spring recipes give hope for the upcoming season of fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs. The Sweet and Sour Meatballs are delicious. The Quite Clever and Tasty Crustless Quiche can be served for dinner or breakfast. The Light and Lovely Lemon Sponge Custard and Nana¿s Lemon Bars are now my mother-in-law¿s favorite desserts.
The Winter recipes are filling. The Bombay Chicken has quite a punch. The Sunday ¿Sundae¿ Chili is now a family favorites. Mom¿s Memorable Bread Pudding is the best bread pudding recipe I have found.
My family does eat differently, depending on the seasons. I venture to guess that your family does, also. This is a great cookbook. It is properly bound for the serious cook (no need to hold the sides down with canned goods). The poetry is just the icing on the cake¿pun intended.
