Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 3-6-Twelve-year-old Nicky enjoys walking Mr. Muffin's dog and eating the retired baker's "hope" cookies. When he discovers that Fleabiscuit can carry a tune, he believes that his family will get larger audiences and more money at their musical performances in New York subway stations. Since his father died, his eccentric family has lived in his grandmother's cramped apartment. When Mr. Muffin becomes ill and cannot care for Fleabiscuit, the plot becomes full of coincidences and twists and turns of action that, if readers can suspend reality, lead to a happy ending (the family and the dog perform to a large crowd in the main terminal of Grand Central Station). Interesting details flesh out the quirky characters. A lively read.-Debbie Stewart Hoskins, Grand Rapids Public Library, MI Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
