President Obama: What Would He Do?

This book will expose a disastrous array of fleeces that are conspiring to rob the American people of their money, their security, and their way of life. The worst among them, however, is what we'll all have to go through if Barack Obama takes office on Inauguration Day in January 2009. There's a strong chance that a Democratic winner would be accompanied by an overwhelming congressional majority, consolidating Democratic control over both houses. We believe that as many as fifty-eight Democrats will be elected to the Senate and the Democrats will extend their domination of the House. The beleaguered Senate Republicans may find it hard to summon the forty-plus votes they would need to sustain a filibuster and stop Obama from fulfilling his agenda. He would be able to do his will. But what will that be? Where would he take our country?

Obama would take the country sharply, suddenly, and dangerously to the far left. He would raise taxes immediately and substantially: increasing the top bracket to at least 40 percent, lifting the cap on Social Security taxes, and doubling capital gains taxes and taxes on dividends. He would roll back the increases in the threshold for the inheritance tax passed under Bush. But his catastrophic intervention in our society would hardly end there. Obama would open the door wide to illegal immigrants and make it easy for them tobecome citizens and voters.

• He would socialize medicine in America—through a federal insurance program that would include illegal immigrants.

• He would weaken the PATRIOT Act in important ways and would increase our vulnerability to terrorists.

• He one would weaken the standards Bush imposed for improved public education.

• He would lower penalties for some of our most dangerous drug criminals and give many a free pass to leave prison.

And, most important, Obama would pull out of Iraq unilaterally, without conditions, and leave it to its (likely bloody) fate. If it became a base for terrorists, he is likely to do little more than to wring his hands and blame President Bush. During the primary season, Obama has been relatively clear about what he would do as president. The trouble is that most voters haven't been listening to what he's been saying. Enthralled by his charisma, enraptured by the idea of electing the first black president, thrilled to have an alternative to the deadly oscillation of Clintons and Bushes in the White House, the voters have allowed the specifics of Obama's agenda to get lost along the way. They have missed the dangerously radical substance that lies behind his attractive rhetoric.

For Obama has done much more than merely promise to end the current political style in Washington and to bring the "audacity of hope to the nation's politics. During the campaign, he explicitly outlined an ultra-liberal agenda—one that runs even further to the left than what Hillary was willing to own up to.

Whereas Hillary flip-flopped on the war in Iraq, Obama was quite clear: he wants out, regardless of the price in lost credibility or Iraqi lives.Whereas Hillary hid her planned tax increases, Obama is quite explicit about them: he would nearly double the capital gains tax and the tax on dividends while raising Social Security and income taxes sky-high.

Hillary forced us to read between the lines to see what she would do as president. With Obama, it was all there in plain sight; we just needed to look—and pay attention.

After all, paying attention to the specifics of what Obama says he will do is vital. We must understand the policies and programs he would bring with him to the White House.

Broadly speaking, there are two kinds of presidents: ideologues and pragmatists. Ideologues have a clear agenda based on their political philosophy; they see their election as an opportunity to implement it. Pragmatists, on the other hand, take office with no clear idea of what course they will adopt until they get there. Clearly, Hillary Clinton is an ideologue—and the evidence we have so far suggests that Barack Obama is one as well.

But Bill Clinton was no ideologue. He was the ultimate pragmatist—and this is the crucial respect in which he differs from Hillary. Bill Clinton, for example, campaigned on generalities: he promised to enact a middle-class tax cut, to "end welfare as we know it," and to focus "like a laser beam" on the economy. Once he took power, however, it became clear that he had no set agenda in mind. Shortly after the election he convened an economic "summit" in Little Rock, Arkansas, with one central mission: for others to tell him what to do. For days he sat and listened as experts propounded their solutions; then, after arriving in Washington, he convened a nonstop parade of policy meetings to try to settle on a concrete agenda. What emerged was a hodgepodge. First he decided to increase the deficit in order to stimulate the economy. Then he decided to cut the deficit and raise taxes in order to bring down interest rates. But the fact is that the zigging and zagging produced a good and solid economic expansion—a stroke of very good fortune.

But the core of Bill Clinton's approach to governing was the quotation from Franklin D. Roosevelt that he often recited: a commitment to "bold, persistent experimentation," seeing what worked and discarding what did not.

But if presidents such as FDR, John F. Kennedy, George H. W. Bush, and Bill Clinton took office with only a vague sense of what they would do, many presidents were ideologues—like Ronald Reagan, Lyndon Johnson, and George W. Bush—who had clear agendas in their minds as they laid their hands on the Bible to take the oath of office.

Lyndon Johnson, empowered first by a national outpouring of grief and guilt after John F. Kennedy's murder and then by a massive electoral victory in 1964, moved quickly to pass JFK's civil rights bill and then implemented a program of domestic spending to combat poverty that he'd envisioned ever since his days as a New Deal congressman from a poor district in Texas.

    The Book of Change whose time has come now!

    What a great book by Dick Morris. He was an insider during the Bill Clinton presidency and was the one responsible, in large part to getting him elected, twice. He provides insider knowledge an insight into how our government really works and who the players are and what they are doing. Dick Morris names names and specifics of what is really happening in the democratically controlled congress, aptly named 'the do nothing congress' due to the fact that in 2 years of their rule, they've only passed 294 laws which is the lowest in history. Since they've been in power, the've ruined our economy. Gasoline prices doubled. Unemployment is the highest in 5 years. People are losing their homes. They won't let us drill for our own oil as we are sending the arabs $700 BILLION a year. WTF?! This book fleeced shows us how these elected officials are profiting off of the current existing system in Washington. They must go after that lobbying money just to have the funds to run for or get elected. All of them, from both parties are getting money from someone. Even the rich politicians like the Kennedies and Kerries of the world. They aren't sitting there using their own money to get elected or re-elected. They are getting money from lobbiests and special interest groups. This book is very insightful into how things really work in Washington and why nothing ever gets fixed or changed for the better. Too bad this book isn't up to date as of yesterday as the democrat from New York, Charles Rangle has just been caught for income tax evasion on some island resort rental property he owns and also four slum tennaments in NY that he owns, or something to that effect in NY. If that isn't bad enough, the kicker is that Charles Rangle is the head of the House Ways and Means commitee(?) which is the committee that writes the tax laws against us. Just note the hypocrasy of this. The democrats actually run for office on campaign promises to raise our taxes and they do and here is one that is one of the major ones who makes us pay more and while at the same time he is not paying those same taxes himself. He even has the nerve to float the media balloon out there that he shouldn't lose his job/career over this matter. He shouldn't? All the rest of us would get penalties, interest and maybe even jail over this. But he is part of the current political insider class that is untouchable in washington democratic politics. He should be forced to step down for the good of the democratic party. This is the kind of stuff that you will find in this insightful and powerful book, 'FLEECED' by Dick Morris. I hope he adds an update to cover the latest corruption happening now in Washington and throughout the land. Knowledge is power and we need reform now! We need to get rid of all the incumbants and install reformers who can clean up the corruption in Washington.

    Sick of liberals

    After reading some of the reviews I couldn't help myself. Why is it when someone questions the fabric of the corruption of liberal politics, it's fabricated or an illusion? Even when it's one of your former fellow liberals saying it, you still can't face the facts! Dick Morris worked side by side with the tainted Clintons and he has seen first hand what trouble we faced then and face now. You can't believe a Republicans words but you can quote every word from Obama's GHOST WRITTEN memoir like it's the Bible. And no Dick isn't bitter, he's enlightened. You guys will be too in four years. Remember, liberals have turned republican but a republican has never turned liberal.

    Dick Morris... Fox News Prostitute...

    First off, i would like to thank David Freddosso, Dick Morris, Jerome Corsi, Brad O'Leary, and all the other anti-Obama writers and pundits for giving Barack Obama so much attention. Thanks to you guys Obama is doing great in the polls. So keep it up you cute little neo-cons. Not even Clinton, Gore and Kerry got this much attention. the more you people continue to spin your right wing agenda the more Obama makes all of you look like fools. oh and by the way don't blame yourselves for the failure of McCain and Palin.... it was the best you could do, at least it was a step up from Bush.

    Dickless Morris, is Ann Coulter's fraternal twin, this man has decided that he can no longer work in politics due to the lies he tells about people, so he has decided to market those lies for profit! AMERICA, AIN'T IT GREAT!

    A Political Read

    My spouse really wanted this book after seeing the author on television and being intrigued by his opinions. There are several very good points about current political and economic situations. However, we found the writing style to be rather ponderous which made it a slow and difficult read.

    The Truth!

    As a corporate director I am very concerned about the direction our nation is heading particularly in the areas of trade deficits, loss of manufacturing, lack of immigration reform and our wrong-headed energy policies (using our corn for fuel; how stupid is this). But more than these concerns are the concerns for my family and the American way of life. I can live with an incompetent government to a degree, but now our very lives are at stake due to our lose of direction.

    This book is a must read for everyone that believes our nation and our way of life is important. As the book so adeptly points out, we are on a slippery slope and help does not seem to be on the horizon. Neither Congress nor the executive branch offers any hope. Our current presidential candidates are under-whelming to say the least. Maybe if Palin and Biden were on top of the ticket I would feel better - probably not.

    Please read this important book and pass along the information to others. The information is disturbing but very real and well researched. Just in case you're wondering, I vote Republican. Michael L. Gooch, SPHR

    Fleeced

    A very clear study and forcast for the current Democrat agenda. If all that is written comes true we, as a nation, will suffer badly. Hopefully there will be a revolt by the Republicans or tax paying citizens to stop this from happening. This path toward socialism and tax payer rape must stop.

    Great Information

    Would not recommend reading Dick Morris Back-to-Back, just too much politics in too little time, but his books are full of great information and facts!

    Great Book

    This is a really good book and if you watch him on Hannity & Colmes you will find it interesting. These book reviews are for mature, honest people to give their feedback...not for liberals to scan the sight for books by conservatives and leave nasty reviews. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you dont somewhat agree with him you probably wont enjoy the book very much. This book is not mean-spirited toward liberals (as many are on the opposite side) so it is very interesting. It would make a neat gift for someone...obviously some of these hippie reviewers who left reviews for a book they didn't read would NOT like the book IF they read it.
