Out in a field, deep in the heart of Iowa hog-farming country, Terence Pearson beheads his own children, apparently without reason.
But appearances are deceptive. Terence is saving his children from a fate far worse: The Green Traveller, a strange mummer dressed in leaves, who with his companions, The Surgeon and The Witness, bring terror and pain to those who cross him. This is a complex novel which features genetics as its theme, alongside a story involving the insertion of human genes into a monstrous pig. Steeped in legends, Flesh & Blood is a fascinating read with eviscerations and decapitations aplenty.

Loved it. I have only read a few of this authors books so far. But this is my favorite at this point. Only problem was , it felt like every other sentence had a word italicized for emphasis. Got quite annoying after a while.
One half 'Children of the Corn' and one half high science, 'Flesh and Blood' is at times terrifying and creepy, at other times as pointed as the most noble of social science fiction. At the core of it is a collision of science and mythology that's unexpected and original. It's not perfect, the third act has some unexpected drag to it but, by the end, it's as invigorating a horror story as you'll read.
