Overview

The Kansas Flint Hills stretch across a dozen counties in the eastern half of the Sunflower State. The region boasts rolling hills covered in native grasses, including the tallgrass varieties unique to the area. Dubbed the "Great American Desert" by pioneers facing the prairie's vastness, the rich grassland became home to settlers pursuing ranching and farming enterprises. Images of America: Flint Hills presents over 200 historic images from a half-dozen counties in the region. Included are vintage photographs from the Native Stone Scenic Byway and the Flint Hills Scenic Byway that transverse the district. Also included are views of Council Grove, the last place that travelers could purchase supplies before leaving on the Santa Fe Trail. The Davis Ranch, which encompassed all of what is now the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, is seen in historic images never published before. The volume concludes with photographs of Flint Hills cowboys at work and at play.

The Images of America series celebrates the history of neighborhoods, towns, and cities across the country. Using archival photographs, each title presents the distinctive stories from the past that shape the character of the community today. Arcadia is proud to play a part in the preservation of local heritage, making history available to all.

    Savage and Dream

A large fae of russet color strides in silently despite her bulk an size. She carries a small wiggling pup in her jaws. She takes in everything before she puts her pup on the ground. Her steel trey eye and violet eye focus on the brute who seems to be Alpha. The large scars on her face stand out and make her look wild if not ugly. She growls low. "I am Savage. My pup is Deam. I would like to join and have Dream stay. But be warned. If tou do allow us we ar being hunted by a brute who will kill anyone in his way. So understand that.".......The little pup bounds aroujd in a circle squealing in her high voice. "I so fluffy and I love squirrels and they fluffy so I a squirrel and I like my tail but it hurts when I bite and I sparkle and mommy I hungry but I scared daddy will hurt you i will not eat but I really hungry so mayb small food?" ((((By the way the father is just a little plot to my characters. That is all.)))))

    Leena

A golden wolf pads up to the border silently. She has a pouch made of animal skin with moss and fur on the inside hanging from her mouth. She sets it down by the border then hears a howl. She turns and races of in the direction of several wolves howling on the no mans land side of the border. After awhile a low whinning comes from the pouch. Inside is a brown and gray wolf, its eyes and ears still closed and it has a twisted back paw which caused a spiral to form on the paw. Inside is a bone with the name Leena on one side and a bunch of pictures to tell a story on the other. The first was a rain cloud, the second a litter of pups, then a spiral mark, a mad and upset looking she wolf, then a pup sitting all alone.
