This story recounts the adventures of Flint and his friends in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. Flint Lockwood is back—and so is his FLDSMDFR machine. This time, it’s creating living foodimals that are jeopardizing the cleanup on the island. Can Flint Lockwood save the world again?
Readers who enjoyed the delightful, classic story Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs or have seen the films will be excited for these early readers. The hero here is Flint Lockwood, who is a creative inventor of a food-creating machine, which turns into something he could not have imagined. In the hands of others he is sent to discover there are now bananostritches, hippotatomuses, and flamangos filling up his little village of Swallow Falls with oversize living food, that has taken over the land. He must stop his invention at once, and enlists friends to help him, but it looks as though from the comic book type drawings on the pages it may be too late! Can Flint do this, and change these food animals into something more appropriate? Readers can find their way, with some scratching of their heads, through the cartoon drawings as all the friends even appear to be dismayed by what they find in Swallow Falls. It would be a good idea to make sure readers are familiar with the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs world before diving into the early readers. Reviewer: Enid Portnoy; Ages 5 to 8.
