Overview

Babette Robinson changes careers and lovers as easily as she changes hairstyles. But after losing her last job, she's beginning to see that her feather-to-the-wind mentality can be unsatisfying in the long run. She's been helping a string of friends solve their relationship problems, and when one pal points out to Babette that she could make a career out of curing people's romantic ills, she decides to dub herself "The Love Doctor" — a match-mender-for-hire.

Living in Birmingham, Alabama, with its elite class of wealthy women, Babette has access to the ideal clientele, including the well-known Birmingham socialite Kitty Carelle. Having unceremoniously dumped her lover, Kitty now regrets her hasty decision and wants him back. Trouble is, the man Kitty seeks to recapture is none other than Jeff Eubanks — Babette's ex! The carefree Babette of three years ago had written him off with a shrug, yet now she can't help remembering that he did give her the absolute best sex of her life...not to mention his charm, good looks, and brains.

To save her newfound career and prove she can stick with something—if not someone—Babette is determined to mend Kitty and Jeff's broken relationship, but Jeff has other plans. He was crazy about Babette when she suddenly bailed on their relationship, and after Kitty did the same he became convinced that no woman can ever commit. To prove his point, Jeff issues Babette a challenge: no flirting for a week, and he'll talk to Kitty. That is, if, after seven tempting nights on the beach with Jeff, it's still with Kitty that she wants him to reconcile.

a delightful character driven contemporary romance.

In Birmingham, thirty-four years old Babette Robinson knows herself too well as her lack of commitment has led to failures. She is the best person at almost anything until she reaches what the NFL calls the Red Zone where she fumbles away the touchdown. Her family insists she is a kind person who is always there to help other people with problems. They persuade her she should open up her own business as a relationship repairwoman.

Feeling good about the concept, Babette creates a match-mending consulting firm the `Love Doctor¿. Business is booming almost immediately and within a few months, Babette is the talk of the town as her success rate is phenomenal. She knows she has made it when affluent society queen Kitty Carelle hires her to patch things up with her ex fiancé Jeff Eubanks, who apparently does not want a second engagement after being dumped one month before the wedding. However, there is a couple of spitballs in bringing together Jeff and Kitty as he was Babette¿s lover for several years. She realizes she wants to patch up their broken relationship that she ended because she could not commit. Her quandary is if she fails Kitty, Jeff will affirm his belief Babette cannot stay the course and would only dump him again if they start over.

This is a fun second chance at love starring fully developed lead characters and strong support players. The story line is fast-paced from the onset but focuses deeply on the fears and hopes of several cast members, but especially Babette. With some slices of humor, but mostly a poignant look at relationships, FLIRTING WITH TEMPTATIONS is a delightful character driven contemporary romance.

Harriet Klausner

    Hilarious!

Author Kelley St. John is a former senior writer at NASA, which she says fueled her interest in writing action-packed suspense. She also enjoys writing quirky and steamy romances. She was elected to the Board of Directors for the Romance Writers of America and since 2000, has won over fifty writing awards including a two-time National Reader¿s Choice Award. Other titles include: To Catch a Cheat, Real Women Don¿t Wear Size 2, Good Girls Don¿t, Kiss and Dwell, Ghosts and Roses, Shiver and Spice, Fire in the Blood, Bed on Arrival, and Live and Yearn. She resides in Louisiana.
Babette Robinson wasn¿t so good with relationships, but she was darn good at helping other people with theirs. She starts her own match-mending business and deems herself The Love Doctor. She¿s making quite the name for herself in Birmingham and soon attracts the attention of socialite Kitty Carelle, who hires Babette to mend her broken engagement to Jeff Eubanks¿none other than her ex! When Jeff and Babette parted ways last year due to her inability to commit, they never expected the heat to still be there when they saw each other again. Jeff, having doubts that Babette has changed, issues her a challenge- Babette must abstain from any and all kinds of flirting for one week. If she succeeds, Jeff will talk to his ex-fiancé, Kitty, so Babette can maintain her thriving new business and keep her perfect record. But Babette is finding Jeff¿s challenge harder than imagined, especially since he keeps throwing roadblocks in her way and the attraction she thought was squelched was in fact still steamier than ever. After one week will Babette still want to give up the man she threw away? And did he feel the same?
I think I enjoyed the secondary characters in this book as much as I enjoyed the two main ones. Rose and her clan from next door in the senior community were hilarious and downright lovable. The side story with Babette¿s grandmother, Gert was delightful, as well. The setting was perfect and the plot flowed nicely. The author has a great eye for body language, which made the characters easy to relate to and believable. This is one of those feel-good kind of books that you should pick up when in need of a good escape and a good laugh. It¿ll make you feel better- Trust me!
Flirting With Temptation, by Kelley St. John, is a sassy, mischievous, laugh-out-loud book¿And not to be missed.

Kelly Moran,
Author and Reviewer

Flirting With Temptation by Kelley St. John

Reviewed for queuemyreview.com; book release Feb09

¿Flirting With Temptation¿ by Kelley St. John was quite the entertaining contemporary romance. It brings to mind a few questions, like: How often do you think about the `one that got away¿? Have you ever thought, ¿What if I saw him again?¿ Well, what if you weren¿t sure why you broke up? What if it¿s been a year already? What if you heard he was engaged? What if you heard his engagement was off? What if his `ex¿ tried to hire you to help her get him back? What if indeed!

Babette has never been able to `stick¿ with anything; not a college major, not a job, and certainly not a man. At 34 she¿s beginning to wonder if maybe there¿s something wrong with her. But then her family puts her on the path to success by suggesting she do what she loves¿helping people repair their relationships. Thus the `Love Doctor¿ is born. Within sex months, Babette is getting a good reputation around town and then in walks her biggest client. Kitty the socialite has heard good things about the Love Doctor and needs her help. Kitty was engaged until recently, when she left her fiancé one month before the wedding. Now she wants him back and she wants Babette to help her. Babette is sure that THIS is her ticket to success. There¿s only a few problems. First, Kitty¿s ex is Jeff Eubanks, who was Babette¿s lover for three incredible years. Second, Jeff has zero interest in getting back together with shallow, stalkerish Kitty. Third, Babette quickly realizes she really wants Jeff back for herself. Fourth, Jeff wants someone who can `commit¿ and if Babette blows off Kitty¿s request then Jeff won¿t think she¿s `committed¿ to her job. And fifth¿well hell¿isn¿t that bad enough?

This was a very upbeat and refreshing read. There were no `bad¿ guys, no crime, no blood, and a good bit of laugh out loud humor. There were two very stubborn, very passionate people who both had to figure out what they really wanted¿and when. There was a full cast of memorable characters, most of which were in their Golden Years. There was a secondary love story with Babette¿s grandmother which was actually very touching while still containing comedic elements. There was a fine sexual tension running throughout the book and a couple of hot love scenes towards the end (and who knew you could DO that with cinnamon roll filling?). And there was love and laughter, a lot of it.

I¿ve often said that I think humor is one of the most difficult things to add to a romance¿well, to add and not have it overwhelm the romance. Kelley St. John has managed to do just that in ¿Flirting With Temptation¿. The characters, plot, and theme all flow together with minimal stutters and the length is just about perfect for a lazy afternoon¿and the cover will likely provide a little heat too! Enjoy, I sure did.
