Flocks of a Feather
About The Novella

In a city where the skyline is shared between concrete towers and feathery drifters, an old man and an unlikely gathering of winged philosophers, loudmouthed dreamers, and scheming opportunists find themselves tangled in a tale of absurdity, self-discovery, and one too many misguided flights.

At the heart of Flocks of a Feather lies a satirical unraveling of groupthink, blind loyalty, and the peculiar nature of those who squawk the loudest. The self-proclaimed leader, Marj Dunning, a crow with more confidence than common sense, leads a flock of followers straight into an existential tailspin. Meanwhile, the mysterious and oddly wise mourning dove, Aquilees, perches on the fine line between observer and participant, watching as egos clash, ambitions crumble, and the true cost of misplaced faith is revealed.

From the city rooftops to the distant horizon of 'flock-knows-where, ' this mockumentary novella captures the comedy of errors that is human (and avian) nature. With a cast of characters as varied as a downtown scavenger's buffet - crows, pigeons, a starling, a hen, a vulture, and even a few squirrelly bystanders - Flocks of a Feather is an irreverent yet oddly profound tale that reminds us: in the end, it's not about where you fly, but who you're flocking with.

About the Author

D. Graham Bell spends most of his time chasing ideas that flutter like attic moths—often landing on half-filled notebooks, napkins, or whispered conversations overheard in cafés. A curious recluse by daylight and a comedic philosopher by moonlight. He writes with the hope of tickling the brain and tugging at heart.

Still uses a click-clacking thingy to write his journals and satirical short stories.
A proud bookworm and gentle observer of absurdities, he once graduated from the unaccredited but entirely magical School of Data, Earthlings & Absurd Analytics – a curriculum best described as half science, half nonsense, and entirely necessary.

When not storytelling, Bell is frequently found wandering in search of snowflakes, autumn leaves, feeding stray thoughts (and birds), or sipping coffee/tea while listening to nature’s symphonies that make the world seem a little more enchanted. Bell stories often blend satire with sincerity, and like the characters he creates, he believes in the odd, the overlooked, and the wonderful mess of being alive.

D. Graham Bell lives in Washington, D.C., where pigeons are spies, crows are political consultants, and hens rule the literary roost.

“For every truth hidden beneath feathers
and farce—may you find laughter and light.”
