In stunning shades of pink with bright yellow accents, squat little pear-shaped Flora tries to emulate a proud and graceful flamingo. It takes a while for the flamingo to realize that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but when the two reconcile their relationship, a double-page foldout is barely large enough to contain the joy."Carla Kozak, San Francisco Public Library"

A young girl picks a flamingo as a dance partner. When the girl does a move wrong, the flamingo laughs at her. The flamingo realizes the girl’s feelings are hurt, and he apologizes. Then the dance continues! Why I liked this book – First of all, just look at the illustrations! Some of the pages have flaps or fold-outs that make “reading” the book more fun. When you look at the book you can hear the music Flora and the flamingo are dancing to in your head. Just from the illustrations you know how the characters are feeling and what they are thinking. This is a great story of friendship and forgiveness. **Note I got a review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
My daughter was somehow able to purchase this book on the nook even though I have it password locked. It is a lovely, wordless story of a little girl and a flamingo dancing together. The illustrations are cute and the emotions of the characters are conveyed very well. No need for words in the picture book. However, on the nook the illustrations were so small it was a complete waste of money.
I found Flora & the Penguin at the Eric Carle Museum & fell in love with the illustrations. We looked for it at our library and found this one, which my daughter & I loved. As an artist, I am just in awe at the powerful, smart & beautiful story-telling of this book; with no words, it tells the complete story. Idle has such a distinct style - can't gush enough about her artistic flair. The book looks like it's on a stage & the interactions between the characters are layered, clever and engaging. Will be buying this for my daughter's birthday & Flora & the Penguin for Christmas.
