Truly the guides that show you what others only tell you, this book features stunning 3D and cutaway views of museums, cathedrals, and other must-see sights; detailed street maps; a handy phrase section; advice on the best places to eat, drink, shop, sleep, and be entertained; and a Survival Guide to help the traveler sort out essential information such as currency, transportation, and communications. As world traveler and TV personality Michael Palin says, "the Eyewitness Travel Guides are irresistibly seductive.... They also deliver where it matters most -- uncluttered and accurate information." Two of central Italy's most spectacular vacation destinations are showcased in more than 1000 exclusive color photographs in DK's Eyewitness Travel Guide: Florence & Tuscany. Florence (Firenze) is easy to navigate with the guide's street-by-street maps and 3-D aerial views that direct you to all the city's wonders. The Piazza del Duomo is highlighted by an impressive section that includes a vibrant cutaway, striking photos of its breathtaking art and architecture, a detailed history timeline, and devotes a page to the remarkable East Doors of the Baptistry. Other major attractions captured in special layouts include The Bargello, Santa Croce, Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio, San Lorenzo, San Marco, and The Uffizi. Rich in culture and landscape, Tuscany (Toscana) is fully explored in the guide's five chapters covering the regions of this vast area. Pisa and its renowned Leaning Tower are found in the Western Tuscany chapter, which explains the phenomenon of the Tower's tilt, and shows a cutaway capturing its stunning interior. In Northern Tuscany, the town of Lucca's extraordinarycathedral, San Martino, is depicted in a two-page layout with a stunning cutaway, and photos of its magnificent art and architectural treasures. The guide offers complete historical and cultural overviews of Florence and Tuscany, as well as an exceptional full day tour of the Chianti Classico wine region and a tasty look at some signature regional dishes. Enhance your trip

My husband and I (both 50 something) took our first trip to Europe this summer. We used this book in Florence and it was a pleasure to use. The maps are really clear and the pictures helped us make choices in planning our days. It seemed like everyone in Florence had this book. We felt it made our vacation better.
