Excerpt from Flower-Land an Introduction to Botany

The reception given last year to "Flower-Land" (Part I.), and enquiries for a Hand-book upon a similar plan which should be a little more advanced, cause me to hope that "Flower-Land" in its new and enlarged form, may find some readers and be of use to them. Part I. is revised, and illustrations have been added; Part II. is now issued for the first time.

There are many who would like to have a sound, though but an elementary, knowledge of Flowering Plants. This, I hope, "Flower-Land" will give them in a readable form: though such readers might omit, at their discretion, the portions mentioned below.

But the book is also arranged to serve as an introduction to more advanced books for those who wish to enter thoroughly into the wonders and delights of Flower-Land.
