Overview

Exile isn't always physical. In this saga of love, courage, and brokenness, the author reflects on the journey of a suddenly impoverished family as they struggle to survive migration to a cold, uncaring third-world capital. Trying desperately to keep body and soul together, its members are torn apart by their inner exiles: A woman bearing child after child in silent submission to tradition. Children bewildered and detached by constant upheaval. A father's secret life and the bitter ostracism that turns him into a lonely stranger under the family roof. In Flowers for María Sucel, love is a fragile yet enduring thing that blooms when least expected.

About the Author

William's story begins in 1959 in native Armenia, a coffee enclave in Colombia. As a profound and experiential writer, he sets out to represent the uniqueness of humanity. In Flowers for Maria Sucel, he reveals the exiles of being, and in Ludovico's Monologues, the impact of frustration and impotence as factors of the absurd. William has adapted Ludovico's Monologues for theater and film. His most recent novel will be released during the winter of 2022. William received the 2016 Literary Merit medal conferred by the Government of Quindío. In 2021, was awarded with the program Reading Colombia, given by the Colombian Book Chamber.
