Overview

Among the European styles reworked in Africa and the Caribbean was military fife-and-drum music and its civilian pipe-and-tabor equivalent, both of which fit nicely with various African equivalents. This is an enchanting (though awfully short) example of the sort of thing that resulted: a new music with clear European as well as local roots. The results sound very Caribbean -- unless you know the older sega of Mauritius, Reunion, and the Seychelles. ~ John Storm Roberts
