I have to admit, I'm a huge fan of Yes since 1994. However, I'm not a purist when it comes down to their music, especially since this is the second time Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman had to leave the band. I just got real excited when I saw this new CD coming out, and honestly, I wasn't too sure about it at first. Now I know just how great FLY FROM HERE is, and my gut feeling is that this album may just be the sequel to the band's 1980 album, DRAMA. The opening title suite (split into 6 parts) is the band's first epic-length track in 6 years, chiming in almost 24 minutes. Now with Geoff Downes joining Yes for a second time, Benoit David's vocal delivers well throughout the song. While he doesn't sound exactly like Jon and more like producer Trevor Horn, he's definitely no worse IMHO. My other favorite song aside from that is "Into the Storm." In addition, Roger Dean's artwork still impresses me to this day.
Honestly, I tried to order the collector's edition box set at least twice, then decided against it, becasue it costs a tad too much, so I went ahead and bought 2 copies of the deluxe edition instead. Even the bonus DVD is incredible, because it includes an 18-minute 'making-of' documentary. I really love this album just as much as the earlier ones. I wish Jon and Rick all the best.
