Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Elizabeth Fronk
Buzz has a pet fly named Fly Guy. One day, Buzz and his pet go for a walk. As they are playing in the park, they meet a girl who is being chased by a fly. Buzz learns that the girl's fly is also her pet that she calls "Fly Girl." Buzz and his new friend, Liz, discover that their pet flies can do tricks, eat gross stuff, and say their names. The two flies get to know each other as Buzz and Liz do. As the flies get to know each other, they begin to have romantic thoughts. Each couple decides that it is better to "just be friends." This beginning chapter book will appeal to fans of Arnold's other "Fly Guy" books; however, this selection is quite short on plot. Although the cartoon-like illustrations and limited words can appeal to beginning readers, the thought bubbles of the flies could be confusing. This particular story will best serve big fans of the other "Fly Guy" adventures. Reviewer: Elizabeth Fronk

K-Gr 2—On a boring day, Fly Guy and his boy, Buzz, amble down the sidewalk, play in the park, and cool off in the fountain. Buzz befriends Liz, who introduces her pink pet, Fly Girl, who wears a tiny bow on one antenna. The flies talk and talk "Wuzzle Wuzzle" as clever thought bubbles depict their conversation. They speak of walking through green goo together, kissing, getting married, and starting life together in an empty dog-food can, but decide to just remain friends once they imagine how much Buzz and Liz would miss them. Arnold's trademark cartoon illustrations and comical narrative will brighten any beginning reader's day, and while some boys may say this romance is totally gross, they will find plenty to laugh about in this funny addition to the series.—Laura Scott, Farmington Community Library, MI

Fly Guy and Buzz are back at it again. Fly Guy stories are fun for young boys (and girls). They are easy to ready, yet funny. My son likes to read them over and over again.

We picked this book up from K's school library. I have to say I didn't enjoy this one as much as the others. I did find it to be cute that Fly Guy meets Fly Girl. At first I thought Buzz was the only person in the world to have a pet fly but, alas he is not. What got me was all the Fly talk. Wuzzle, Wazzle and what not. After a few pages of reading that I just wanted to hurry up and finish reading this one to K. K seemed to enjoy the book but he has been enjoying reading about Fly Guy so this is right up his alley. Easy read, and good pictures that go with the story.

Have you read the book 'Fly Gut Meets Fly Girl'? It's cool and sweet. It's about Fly Guy and a boy that took a walk to the park and saw a girl that had a fly as a pet. The name was Fly Girl. Fly Guy and Fly Girl were in love. The boy and girl were in love too. They said, "See you at the park again." This book was happy when Fly Guy and Fly Guy were in love. I think you should rad this book. It's one of the best books I've read ever.
