Flying in Shadows is an excellent follow up to the first Black Creek Burning series. The tension and love between Andy and Rose jumped off the page, and kept me enthralled with their story.

I loved Flying in Shadows! It was a perfect follow-up to Book 1 (Black Creek Burning) but it truly could stand alone for a reader who hadn't started with Book 1. Oh, but why would you skip it? This author is truly addictive. She's got a wonderfully easy to read writing style which sucks you in and you happily don't want to leave this rich and wonderful world. So, take my advice: get this book, but first go back and read Black Creek Burning so you can fall in love with the Reeds and the nephews, Andy and Duncan, and you'll meet Rose, and then move onto Book 2 (Flying in Shadows) where you'll see them grow up and develop a sweet and passionate romance. Awesome book.

Following on the heels of Black Creek Burning, Flying in Shadows is like revisiting old friends, while taking a peek in a new neighbour’s window. This is a true love story with a full cast of characters and stories within stories. R.T. Wolfe writes solid heroes and strong, passionate heroines who know what they want. A true animal lover, Wolfe must write what she loves because the heroine’s love for her animals shines through as she educates the reader with fascinating eagle habits, a part of the story I read with enthusiasm. While this is a romance between Andy and Rose, in true Wolfe fashion, evil visits Black Creek and makes Flying in Shadows a suspenseful read. Wolfe doesn’t shy away from emotionally charged subjects as the heroine must face an devastating truth about her past, one that no one, not even her very capable hero can save her from. Can't wait to take another trip back to Black Creek!

What I like about R.T. Wolfe's books is they are not your run-of-the-mill boys meets girl romantic love stories. There is always a dynamic story that travels parallel to the love story. I need more than a love story with a little conflict. I need the characters to have substance and depth, which is delivered beautifully in both books so far. R.T. develops her characters with great care, and with a deeply personal touch. The additional nuances of suspense, and even something for the animal lover sets this series apart from the rest.

So my thinking was, R.T. Wolfe made me fall head over heels for her hero, Nathan Reed, in her BLACK CREEK BURNING, how could she possibly make me fall for his son, Andy, in FLYING IN THE SHADOWS? Uhh…wrong! If I had Andy and Nathan in front of me right now I’d be desperately torn! Andy is…a bit cocky, somewhat of a flirt, smart, built, talented, caring…everything that Nathan was, in a different way. But what really made this story stand out more for me is the heroine, which is unusual for me. Usually the heroine is just a shadowy extension of me. But Rose? I REALLY like Rose. Gutsy, but still with her vulnerabilities and insecurities.  Opinionated, but not in an overbearing way. Caring, but in not in an overly sweet way, more practical. She was, in a word, great. And the two of them together, as much as it pains me to admit it, she and Andy deserve to be together. Their relationship is sweet, unique, touching.  The sinister bad guy? I mean, this guy gave me the serious creeps! The tension is gut-wrenching when we see him confront his various victims, and you really fear for the characters he’s after. All in all I’d say she’s done it again. R.T. Wolfe has created a gripping plot, genuine characters, and an endearing love story, all tied up in a neat little package. She doesn’t disappoint.

Flying in Shadows is the fantastic second book in the Black Creek series by R.T. Wolfe. While this is the second in the series it can be read as a stand alone, taking place over many years and while the hero & heroine of Flying in Shadow are secondary characters in Black Creek Burning this is a complete and separate story. R.T. Wolfe set a pretty high bar with her first in the Black Creek series,Black Creek Burning, Flying in Shadow does not disappoint this is romantic suspense the way it should be done. Following Andy (one of the nephews from Black Creek Burning) and Rose (the neighbor girl from Black Creek Burning) from the time they are 10 and 11 into adulthood this story spans many years and their lives from childhood best friends to finding love and dealing with a danger from Rose's past that could become a deadly problem for their future. Flying in Shadow is equal parts romance and suspense with plenty of sexual tension and a few love scenes that are extremely well written without being explicit. We are treated to enough back story, secondary plots and tidbits that hint at what could be future stories that this is a rich tapestry of love, life and the element of danger all while making sure you want to read the entire series.  With this book as well as the first I was unable to put it down, reading this in one sitting from beginning to end.  I don't give out a lot of 5 flower reviews because that says I liked this so much that I would re-read it, something I don't often do with books. Flying in Shadow is one of those books that was so well written and so griping that I would re-read it and I wait not so patiently for the next installment.

I've always said that I'm not a romance novel person. However, after reading Black Creek Burning and now Flying in Shadows, I do believe that R.T. Wolfe has made a convert out of me! Flying in Shadows is the second book in R.T.'s Black Creek series. Just like its predecessor, Black Creek Burning, this sophomore effort is filled with authentic characters and the perfect mix of romance and suspense. However, as much as I thoroughly enjoyed the first novel, I loved this one even more. R.T. has developed a strong, confident voice which has allowed her to deftly intertwine a mysterious plot with conservation issues--without being preachy or overshadowing the intense relationship between Rose and Andy. I look forward to the third book in the series!

So far I have read three books in this series - I really enjoyed the first but I think this may be my favorite of the three. Highly recommend.

This was a beautiful and achingly sweet romance. I love how the author took me through Andy and Rose’s journey: from childhood buddies, to teenagers with a tried and true friendship, to deep romantic love. I felt for Rose’s mom, Amanda, throughout. The mystery grows, parallel to the romance, until the two collide. Each secondary character adds meaning and layers, and I’m hoping for a sequel with Duncan and Nicki’s story! I read this gorgeous work in a weekend, and when I finished I felt like I’d just visited old friends and had a unique adventure. R.T. Wolfe just has a way with imagery and language. She combines words in ways I’ve never read or heard, and gets me to visualize and think. I FELT every moment of this story. I loved R.T. Wolfe’s first novel, Black Creek Burning, and adored To Fly in Shadows.

This book will fast forward you through 22 years and focus on Alex and Rose. You met Alex and Rose in the first book in the series. Alex and Rose met when Alex moved to Black Creek and is a neighbor. There is romance and murder mystery. You meet Nickie Savage near the end of this book. Highly recommend this series of books. 270 pages long.

Like Nathan and Bri in the first novel, the characters were easy to hold onto. The story line had me right from the beginning and I didn't want to put it down.

Book two of this series is every bit as good as book one was. Our main characters are the second generation, best friends forever. The suspense is never ending, the twists and turns are exciting. This is a book that I couldn't put down. I can't wait to read the final book in this series.

R. T. Wolfe blends romance, mystery, and suspense in Flying in Shadows, book two of the Black Creek Trilogy. In Flying in Shadows, a boy and girl grow up next door to each other and grow to love the other more as time passes. Rose is a nature-loving tomboy, and Andy is a perfect male-specimen who loves to build. Although their interests and careers are as opposite as they can be, they have a bond that transcends time, tempers, and tragedy. Rose and Andy start as playmates. As they grow up, love develops and forms a strong friendship and finally a heated romance. The Benefits: 1. Pixar Great Andrew Stanton says that one of the secrets of storytelling is making your reader a promise. R.T. Wolfe does that well with her Black Creek series. I found the first book charming and the second book more so. Wolfe began the romance-mystery series with a focused look at a quiet suburb and a handful of primary characters. Returning to this fictional world, Wolfe features a couple that we first saw as children in book one. The promise and potential of Rose and Andy’s love story was well met. In fact, I found their early love story incredibly engaging and moving… in a I-can’t-put-this-down kind of way. Although the book works fine as a stand-alone single (because Wolfe gives all the background a new reader would need while giving old fans new insights into well-known characters) the true success of this series is the promise that Wolfe makes about the safety and love of Black Creek. We watched Brianna and Nathan build dreams in book one, and in book two and three we watch Nathan’s orphaned nephews grow into men. Each time we return to Black Creek, things are getting a little bit better and evil is pushed away to make room for romance. 2. The “falling in love” portion of the book more satisfying than in most of the novels I’ve read–and I’ve read so many. The book opens with an extended prologue, watching key moments in the lives of its main characters, so we get a peek into why Rose and Andy love each other so much and how their connection deepened over time. More than this, Wolfe manages repeatedly to evoke feelings of deep love and sadness in the first half of the novel; I really felt Andy and Rose as they struggled to learn how to love each other in their late teens. This made the reading rewarding and memorable: a truly great way to spend an afternoon. 3. My interests in feminist romance fiction is intrigued by the difficult question of Rose. Rose has much in common with her wild, winged friends, and the parallels between her story and the lives of the birds she loves are interesting and engaging. Do her choices allow her to be the women she was meant to be? Or are choices unfairly made for her? Is she stronger because of those choices? Wolfe offers answers to these questions, but I am happy she asked them at all. I absolutely cannot wait to read Book 3, Dark Vengeance, which comes out in April! (Read Books 1 and 2 and you’ll love Duncan as much as I do.)

Flying in Shadows was the kind of story that evoked a multitude of emotions. The sweet journey of childhood friends Rose and Andy into adulthood and love tugs at your heartstrings, while the tension and danger of the murder mystery ties your stomach into knots. I can't resist a tale of age old secrets that come back to haunt. R.T. Wolfe did a fabulous job of balancing the different elements into a captivating novel. I am sooooo looking forward to the next one!

Boring, boring plot and even more boring characters. Andy and Rose were cute as kids but uninteresting as adults. Waste of time and money.

The Black Creek Series is great. The first book kept my interest right to the end (could not put it down) and this second book (Flying in Shadows) continued on. You will not be disappointed.
