Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Following the events of Magyk, Septimus Heap continues his apprenticeship with ExtraOrdinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand, and Jenna is enjoying her new life as a princess. But something seems amiss; does the Darke Magyk still linger in this royal preserve? This installment of the exciting adventure series features a few new characters, including a memorable dragon.
Voice of Youth Advocates (VOYA) (Starred Review)
“Terrifically entertaining…Fans of the first book will be delighted with this sequel to Septimus’s story.”
Publishers Weekly
The second book of the Septimus Heap series, Flyte by Angie Sage, picks up one year after the launch title, Magyk. Here, Septimus is apprenticed to Marcia Overstand, the ExtraOrdinary Wizard who switched him with Jenna at birth in order to protect him, and Jenna is enjoying life as a princess-until the Darke Magyk threatens everyone's sense of security. Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
VOYA
A year has passed since the Heaps have discovered that their seventh son, Septimus, is alive and well. But the family's joy is not shared by oldest brother, Simon, who sees Septimus as a fraud and upstart who has taken the position of Apprentice to the ExtraOrdinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand, which Simon thinks should be his. So while Septimus learns Magykal Charms, Simon turns to Dark Magyk to overthrow both Septimus and Marcia. He begins by returning to the Castle to kidnap Princess Jenna. Jenna uses her own wiles to escape Simon, meeting up with Septimus as he searches for her. They complete their journey to the Dragon Boat, which Jenna must visit each MidSummer Night, but Simon pursues with his newfound Flyte ability, determined to wreck the Dragon Boat. Septimus must fly the Dragon Boat, sled through ice tunnels, and wrest Flyte from Simon in order to save Marcia Overstrand, the Dragon Boat, and Jenna. This novel is a delightful continuation of the Magykal capers begun in the first of this series, Magyk (Katherine Tegen Books/HarperCollins, 2005/VOYA February 2005). Although the book is written for younger Harry Potter fans, older students and adults can enjoy the series, with its quick pace, humor, and clever cast of characters. Sage is clearly following in the footsteps of other fantasy masters, echoed in twists and turns of the tale that include Septimus's stone from Jenna hatching into a dragon (a la Paolini's Eragon), but the story is terrifically entertaining. Fans of the first book will be delighted with this sequel to Septimus's story. VOYA CODES: 4Q 5P M J (Better than most, marred only by occasional lapses; Every YA (who reads) was dying to read it yesterday; MiddleSchool, defined as grades 6 to 8; Junior High, defined as grades 7 to 9). 2006, Katherine Tegen Books/HarperCollins, 528p., and PLB Ages 11 to 15.

    Flyte...WOW!

Flyte... WOW!!! The followup to Magyk really makes you want to read the whole series! So do! Enjoy them, I know I have and will continue to love this amazing, touching series of the family of Septimus Heap, the boy otherwise known as Boy 412, but now Sarah Heap's son, or Marcia's apprentice. This book is a good one! Four stars is definatly a fair rating, though, because Magyk is much more amazing than Flyte. Continue to read The Heaps' stories! They will change your life!

    I Also Recommend:

    Another Magycal Story takes Flyte

Once you open this book you can't seem to put it down. In this case size matters not, truly. You have read all 544p before you even realize it. You see people from the last book and things are continued, the imagination just flows. So if you liked the last book you will enjoy this one as well.

    Amazing

For the second book in a series, this was suprisingly almost as goo as the first. The author was still able to put wonderful magyk and detail to the story. Not to mention the fantastix humor. Angie Sage has done it again. Flyte is a perfect sequel to Magyk. Great job Angie Sage! Keep it coming!

    Enjoyable Series

This was purchased for my 10 year old son. He is an avid reader and liked the series very much. He feels that the children in his class that enjoy reading would also enjoy this book. It has a " Harry Potter " type of feel to it and like Potter , Septimus Heap would be liked by boys and girls . The only flaw that he mentioned was it was a little slow in parts . On a side note , for children that participate in the Accelerated Reader program , it has a value of 18 points.
