Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
AGERANGE: Ages 4 to 6.

The Backyardigans have been charged by King Pablo to watch over a speckled egg. The king has asked his faithful knights to keep a close eye while he shops for a new crown. Not much of a task for brave, bold knights, but this egg seems to have a mind of its own as it rolls away from Uniqua and Tyron and heads for Dragon Mountain. Who knows what they will encounter there as they chase after the egg which has suddenly developed legs. Suddenly they encounter the Grabbing Goblin, but their quick wits save the day. The egg is hatching, and now it has developed wings. The ending may or may not be a surprise, but this rebus reader (Level 1) will be fun for kids who enjoy the show on Nickelodeon. Nice book for beginning readers, includes some photos in the wording to work on word recognition. Good story line for kids who like the Backyardigans. We have read this many times. It is an enjoyable book!

My 3 year daughter loves the Backyardigans and we are working on reading skills right now, so I thought this story would be fun for us to read together. She loves the story. She loves to "read" the parts that show the character/object with the name written below it. This story is a fun way to make story time interactive and engaging. It's a level 1 story so it is simple and not too confusing for her to follow. Sometimes after we tuck her into bed she will have to story with her and she will "read" it to herself. It is really cute.
