Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In this new cookbook, the Food Network Magazine does what it does best: present a collection of easily prepared dishes that emphasize creative twists on crowd favorites. With its condensed recipes and eye-catching layout, this is a good book for people who want to be inspired and play around in the kitchen rather than follow a long, precise recipe. Tired of your old hamburger? You’ll definitely find a replacement among the 54 recipes offered in the chapter on “Burgers and Hotdogs.” A slew of diner classics (think: chile cheeseburgers) is complemented by inventive if not authentic takes like the hoisin burger or turkey Niçoise. The suggested menus are a fun addition, with appealing photos and themes that you’d actually use in real life, like a menu for a kids’ sleepover (pizza nachos, Jucy Lucy burgers, yogurtwiches, and lemonade). Basic cooking tips scattered throughout will help beginner cooks and reinforce the magazine’s can-do attitude. Sure, there’s an entire chapter devoted to nachos and potato skins, but embrace it. Library Journal
To fit 1000 recipes in this trim collection, editors from the bestselling Food Network Magazine dispensed with headnotes, cooking times, and yields in favor of one-paragraph recipes that combine measurements and instructions (editor-in-chief Maile Carpenter likens them to tweets). Most are self-contained, but some, like the 30-plus variations on potato skins, refer to a base recipe earlier in the chapter. The minimalist format puts bright photos front and center, and this makes it easy for families to quickly choose what they'd like to eat. VERDICT A practical collection of American favorites that's great for busy families without major dietary restrictions.

I am very disappointed in the Nook version of this cookbook. The pages are off center and consequenlty you can read the whole page. Also the pages do not turn correctly. The pages often get stuck. This was a compete waste of money.

Wanted to see what the book was like. To see if it was worth the purchase. Could not turn the pages. Unable to ser any recipe as i got stuck on page 77 and it was blank. Tried to go forward a few pages they all looked like page 77. Tried to go 30 pages and still could not get an actual page i could read. This was not user friendly. I graciously gave it ONE star.

Like other reviewers I could only see a portion of each page. It also froze one getting to the portion if the book with menus. Note this was the trial version. I never was able to see a recipe.
