Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Summer Whiting
The students of Appleville Elementary are in for a surprise! It's April Fool's Day and Justine has several surprises up her sleeve. Worms, glue, and spilled milk invade the hallways and homes of the little first graders. Justine is enjoying herself, until the joke's on her. Students will relate to both Justine and those who have found themselves at the receiving end of the prank. An important lesson is learned at the end of this story and could be used to spark great discussion, either at home or in the classroom. This book makes a great introduction to chapter books for the newly independent reader. It would also make an excellent read aloud for first and second grade and would complement the introduction to several reading strategies, including predicting, sequencing and summarizing. The price is right for this book and is sure to bring laughs to the young reader. Reviewer: Summer Whiting
