Jim Johnson is a wealthy businessman, a “job creator” who pockets corporate board fees, cheats at golf, and trumpets shocking opinions. After he’s exposed for depreciating his wife on his tax return, professing belief in nine gods, and conspiring to peddle worthless health products, the media proclaim him the flavor of the month in the Presidential sweepstakes.
Johnson refuses to run, but he continues to broadcast his outlandish plans – replacing The Star Spangled Banner with Money (That’s What I Want), crippling terrorism by requiring terrorists to join unions, offering incentives for corporate greed, and creating two new political parties, the Fools and the Knaves. The media is baffled and appalled, but voters love Johnson and scream for him to enter the race.
“I will not run,” Johnson proclaims, and then, of course, he runs. In a four party race, (Republicans, Democrats, Knaves, and Fools) he leads the polls going into late October. If he can survive the Great Debate, Jim Johnson will be President of the United States.
Johnson’s campaign for president is the most historical--and hysterical--ever. The other candidates make Donlad Trump, Herman Cain, Michele Bachman, and Rick Santorum seem restrained, moderate, and responsible. The outcome is never in doubt: Somebody will be elected President. But who?

Meet the Author

Steven Clifford has served in positions as varied as CEO of King Broadcasting in Seattle, Washington (1987-1992), CEO of National Mobile Television (1992-2000) and Special Deputy Comptroller of the City of New York during the City’s fiscal crisis (1975-78). He currently serves on the board of directors for Laird Norton Company, Harbor Properties, Winona Capital Management and Mosaica, Inc. He has previously served on the boards of US Bank and Todd Shipyards.

He also writes humor blogs for The Huffington Post http://www.huffingtonpost.com/steven-clifford/ and Crosscut http://crosscut.com/account/steveclifford/, an Internet site geared towards those living in Seattle and the surrounding areas.

Steven received an MBA with Distinction from Harvard Business School and a BA as an Art History major form Columbia University. He and his wife of 40 plus years, Judith, have two married daughters, one an entrepeneur and the other a business reporter for The New York Times.

Mr. Clifford lives in Seattle, Washington. This is his first novel.

    I was given a copy of the book FOOLS AND KNAVES: THE TRUE STORY

    I was given a copy of the book FOOLS AND KNAVES: THE TRUE STORY OF MY HISTORIC PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN by Jim J. Johnson, Former Presidential Candidate as told to Steven Clifford. I wasn’t sure what to expect, as I don’t normally read political books, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The writing is witty and comical. I was entranced from the first sentence to the last. It wove a spell that put me beside Jim J. Johnson. I pictured us sitting on a park bench, enjoying a warm and sunny day, while he told me his story.

    The writing didn’t feel like nonfiction. Many parts felt like fiction, with dialogue and descriptions. Some terms were over my head – I’m not very big on politics. However, they were explained and didn’t jar me from the story. I recommend this to anyone who wants a rollicking read, interested in “the other point of view,” or intrigued by politics.
